Publisher's summary

Of the five contenders for power, one is dead, another in disfavor, and still the wars rage as violently as ever, as alliances are made and broken. Joffrey, of House Lannister, sits on the Iron Throne, the uneasy ruler of the land of the Seven Kingdoms. His most bitter rival, Lord Stannis, stands defeated and disgraced, the victim of the jealous sorceress who holds him in her evil thrall. But young Robb, of House Stark, still rules the North from the fortress of Riverrun. Robb plots against his despised Lannister enemies, even as they hold his sister hostage at King's Landing, the seat of the Iron Throne. Meanwhile, making her way across a blood-drenched continent is the exiled queen, Daenerys, mistress of the only three dragons still left in the world....

But as opposing forces maneuver for the final titanic showdown, an army of barbaric wildlings arrives from the outermost line of civilization. In their vanguard is a horde of mythical Others, a supernatural army of the living dead whose animated corpses are unstoppable. As the future of the land hangs in the balance, no one will rest until the Seven Kingdoms have exploded in a veritable storm of swords....

What a story!

What a story, you can never say who is doomed and who is winning in this game, if you are a player or just a piece, but once you in it, you can hardly get yourself out the game of thrones.

Wow!

This has been an incredible series of books. I read the first two, and listened to the third. The narration is stunning. This was the best voice acting/narration I have heard. So many different voices and accents. This series will leave you craving the as-yet-unpublished fourth book. Bring on "A Feast For Crows"!!

Best yet

ASOIAF is top tier fantasy and this is my favorite so far in the series. Reader could be a bit better, but doesn’t hurt the story too much. Definitely recommend

Magnificent!

I’ve was a fan of the show adaptation (up till season 8 of course) and the House of Dragon production pulled me back in to the world of Westeros. I am so glad to finally be reading these books. While books 1&2 were tremendous, I have to say the show followed them very well. But here in book 3 we have something’s occurring different from the television adaptation and I absolutely love it! The twist at the end in the epilogue! I can’t wait to start book 4! Also on a sadder note when book 6&7 are finally finished it will be bittersweet to not have Mr. Roy Dotrice bringing them to life as he does here in this excellent production.

Excellent story and narration

What is there to say about George RR Martin’s writing? He’s a living legend, and works like this show why.

Roy Dotrice is a fantastically entertaining narrator in my opinion. Yes it’s weird at first hearing one old man voice everything from the Hound to a brothel whore, but to be honest he does a damned good job at it.

I mean if Seasons 3 and 4, were the best

Jaime is my 2nd fav characters I like to read, next to Tyrion. I mean this is the book that the best seasons ( 3 and 4, mostly 3 in my opinion) were adapted from.
