Publisher's summary

Of the five contenders for power, one is dead, another in disfavor, and still the wars rage as violently as ever, as alliances are made and broken. Joffrey, of House Lannister, sits on the Iron Throne, the uneasy ruler of the land of the Seven Kingdoms. His most bitter rival, Lord Stannis, stands defeated and disgraced, the victim of the jealous sorceress who holds him in her evil thrall. But young Robb, of House Stark, still rules the North from the fortress of Riverrun. Robb plots against his despised Lannister enemies, even as they hold his sister hostage at King's Landing, the seat of the Iron Throne. Meanwhile, making her way across a blood-drenched continent is the exiled queen, Daenerys, mistress of the only three dragons still left in the world....

But as opposing forces maneuver for the final titanic showdown, an army of barbaric wildlings arrives from the outermost line of civilization. In their vanguard is a horde of mythical Others, a supernatural army of the living dead whose animated corpses are unstoppable. As the future of the land hangs in the balance, no one will rest until the Seven Kingdoms have exploded in a veritable storm of swords....

excellent performance

The narrator's performance has steadily improved as the series progresses. This was my favorite performance of the first three books.

An Excellent Book With Narration To Match

Fantastic Narration. It's always great to listen to an amazing and epic series. I've listened to the previous books and look forward to the rest, as well as supplemental works.

Entertaining

What made the experience of listening to A Storm of Swords the most enjoyable?

The narrator is active and even changes voice for each character, makes it easier to follow dialog.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Character are very relative in one way or another, as an adult you've most likely have been through hardships... you relive them through these characters.

Any additional comments?

The only issue I had were the songs... they are hard to stomach. But they are worth getting through

Wow!

Would you listen to A Storm of Swords again? Why?

Probably. I'm most of the way through book 3 and beginning to get tired of the "historical" asides that add little to the plot line, and I'm beginning to wonder if I'll make it through the marathon of all seven book (as they become available). I'm also viewing the HBO series, which is pretty faithful to the books. Roy Dotrice is incredible. I generally don't like "dramatized" books with multiple readers. It is an astonishing tour de force how many separate voices and personalities Dotrice can create.

What was one of the most memorable moments of A Storm of Swords?

Joffrey's decision to decapitate Ned Stark.

What about Roy Dotrice’s performance did you like?

See above.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Mostly I was entranced.

Any additional comments?

Two credits per book is a lot. It is indicative of how addicted I have become that I plan to purchase all the books (as they become available).

This book easily has the most action going on with all the characters. Best of the 5 books so far in this saga.

Just one little thing. ..

Classic, but felt like chapters ended prematurely. I've read the text too and some chapters didn't line up.
