Publisher's summary

Of the five contenders for power, one is dead, another in disfavor, and still the wars rage as violently as ever, as alliances are made and broken. Joffrey, of House Lannister, sits on the Iron Throne, the uneasy ruler of the land of the Seven Kingdoms. His most bitter rival, Lord Stannis, stands defeated and disgraced, the victim of the jealous sorceress who holds him in her evil thrall. But young Robb, of House Stark, still rules the North from the fortress of Riverrun. Robb plots against his despised Lannister enemies, even as they hold his sister hostage at King's Landing, the seat of the Iron Throne. Meanwhile, making her way across a blood-drenched continent is the exiled queen, Daenerys, mistress of the only three dragons still left in the world....

But as opposing forces maneuver for the final titanic showdown, an army of barbaric wildlings arrives from the outermost line of civilization. In their vanguard is a horde of mythical Others, a supernatural army of the living dead whose animated corpses are unstoppable. As the future of the land hangs in the balance, no one will rest until the Seven Kingdoms have exploded in a veritable storm of swords....

Never a Dull Moment

This book had much more violence and surprises than the last book. Characters that I had enjoyed getting to know were suddenly killed and that was very unsettling but it makes for an exciting story as you never know what will happen next. I enjoyed this book and am anxious to see what happens next in the 4th book

Incredible

By far Martin's best entry in the series. Fans of the show will realize these are the events of seasons 3 & 4. The book is a masterclass of suspense, tension and gut-wrenching betrayal. Couldn't wait to listen to more at every moment.

Middle of the night no sleepin'

Would you consider the audio edition of A Storm of Swords to be better than the print version?

Don't know

What other book might you compare A Storm of Swords to and why?

My first experience with this level of fantasy

Have you listened to any of Roy Dotrice’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Other GOT books. He has mastered the character personalities.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

The TV series has already been done, so this q is not applicable

Any additional comments?

Had a difficult time putting this one down. I was up until the wee hours listening when I should have been sleeping.

A joy to listen to while driving!

I listen at 1.35x speed and love the pacing! Roys narration makes the story come to life. I don't mind sitting in traffic anymore

The Best Book I Have Ever Read

The entire Song of Ice and Fire series is wonderful, but this book by far is the best. Nobody weaves a tale quite like George R. R. Martin, and he is at his absolute best in this book. At the end of each Point Of View Chapter, I wish it hadn't ended. Then, by the end of the next one, I wished THAT one hadn't ended. The story propels you, and surprises you again and again and again. Fantastic. Furthermore, Roy Dotrice is an absolute master. The narration in this series is second to none.

Great book, good Narrorator

Narrator should have spoken more clearly, it was hard to understand him sometimes when he did the voices.
Also tywin is Winston Churchill, so there's that.
