Publisher's summary

Of the five contenders for power, one is dead, another in disfavor, and still the wars rage as violently as ever, as alliances are made and broken. Joffrey, of House Lannister, sits on the Iron Throne, the uneasy ruler of the land of the Seven Kingdoms. His most bitter rival, Lord Stannis, stands defeated and disgraced, the victim of the jealous sorceress who holds him in her evil thrall. But young Robb, of House Stark, still rules the North from the fortress of Riverrun. Robb plots against his despised Lannister enemies, even as they hold his sister hostage at King's Landing, the seat of the Iron Throne. Meanwhile, making her way across a blood-drenched continent is the exiled queen, Daenerys, mistress of the only three dragons still left in the world....

But as opposing forces maneuver for the final titanic showdown, an army of barbaric wildlings arrives from the outermost line of civilization. In their vanguard is a horde of mythical Others, a supernatural army of the living dead whose animated corpses are unstoppable. As the future of the land hangs in the balance, no one will rest until the Seven Kingdoms have exploded in a veritable storm of swords....

Naughty Dog's postapocalyptic video game The Last of Us is a masterclass in storytelling. Celebrated for its complex ruminations on grief, morality, and redemption, this unique take on dystopia has maintained a steady fanbase since 2013. That following is set to grow following the debut of HBO's television adaptation—a breakout hit that sacrifices none of the emotional stakes or brilliant character work of its source material.

NARRATOR TORTURE

Would you consider the audio edition of A Storm of Swords to be better than the print version?

Which character – as performed by Roy Dotrice – was your favorite?

The story is great, but Roy Dotrice, needs to create some new voices. He makes everyone sound like an " old drunken pirate" even the women. It's TORTURE !!!

The reader Roy D. does an impeccable job!

Loved the story, loved the reader. Perfection in my eyes. Can't wait for the next book.

Again?? Wow!!

I can't get over how much we love listening to the books in this series. We start our day over coffee and tea and Mr. Dotrice giving life to Mr. Martin's characters. It's remarkable the way the tales of so many are woven so tightly, with such detail. It's impressive to say the least. I love how vivid the lands are, the faces, the armor, the clothing. The personalities are etched in your mind as if you actually know them, although many you would not want to. How the author kills one you love and spares one you detest, while keeping you interested is a wonder in itself. Can't wait to read, or in this case, listen on!

The best so far...

There are a lot of changes in this story, mostly in the last 3rd. I think this is the best so far, but it took me a while to get past the first 3rd of the book.

Great dialogue and separate voices

Roy kills it in this dialogue-heavy epic, confuses maybe two lines throughout the book. Listening becomes clearer than reading.

great story, narration so so

I love the story. The voice of Roy Dotrice is a treat to listen to... until it isn't. I sympathize with him for the need to have variety in his voicing of the characters, but with so many to do, he resorts to a bunch of defaults for secondary and tertiary characters and some of them are grating on the nerves. so many of them seem like exaggerated caricatures, rather than real people. for me the worst offender is the voice of the slave girl that Daenerys frees in Astropor. An over boiled mockery of an Asian accent, it made it tough to get through those sections for me.

Great book not best narrator

Awesome book
Amazing detailed story
Narrator voices some times I cracked up almost all the men are the same and the women even worse

I honestly think they should have 2-3 different voice actor or perhaps a male and female at a minimum
