Publisher's summary

Of the five contenders for power, one is dead, another in disfavor, and still the wars rage as violently as ever, as alliances are made and broken. Joffrey, of House Lannister, sits on the Iron Throne, the uneasy ruler of the land of the Seven Kingdoms. His most bitter rival, Lord Stannis, stands defeated and disgraced, the victim of the jealous sorceress who holds him in her evil thrall. But young Robb, of House Stark, still rules the North from the fortress of Riverrun. Robb plots against his despised Lannister enemies, even as they hold his sister hostage at King's Landing, the seat of the Iron Throne. Meanwhile, making her way across a blood-drenched continent is the exiled queen, Daenerys, mistress of the only three dragons still left in the world....

But as opposing forces maneuver for the final titanic showdown, an army of barbaric wildlings arrives from the outermost line of civilization. In their vanguard is a horde of mythical Others, a supernatural army of the living dead whose animated corpses are unstoppable. As the future of the land hangs in the balance, no one will rest until the Seven Kingdoms have exploded in a veritable storm of swords....

Naughty Dog's postapocalyptic video game The Last of Us is a masterclass in storytelling. Celebrated for its complex ruminations on grief, morality, and redemption, this unique take on dystopia has maintained a steady fanbase since 2013. That following is set to grow following the debut of HBO's television adaptation—a breakout hit that sacrifices none of the emotional stakes or brilliant character work of its source material.

Good but for....

He does voices great but I would get sick to my stomach every time he felt the need to go so far into a character that he sucked his teeth. It was disgusting. I felt myself praying the part would end soon. It would have been fantastic had he not felt to do that disgusting part. I could have done without that part I couldn’t even listen to the parts he did that in.

Very good!

The only issue I have is the way the speaker pronounces 'Petyr' and 'Brienne' but that's a small thing.

Excellent

Roy Dotrice was the perfect guy to narrate this series. May he Rest In Peace.

brilliant as always

I could never find the correct words to praise this series or the amazing performance by the late, great Roy Dotrice.

The Narrator is so good!

If you have gotten this far into the series then clearly you enjoy it. Well you certainly will not be disappointed with this book. Excellent from start to finish.

An amazing book but it’s read by Roy Dotrice

Blown away. If I could give 6 stars out of 5, I’d give 7. The story starts to become a little different from the show with the introduction of some different characters that were never mentioned in GOT. GRRM really didn’t like to write about romance though, that’s something the show displayed perfectly (don’t mention season e**** to me as far as I know it never happened). Excellent book, definitely the best of the first three.

As for Roy Dotrice’s voice acting... it’s not good. It’s bad, like really bad. If he had just read the books in his normal voice, while occasionally making his voice change for some unimportant characters, it would be leagues better. He tries to pull off something he can’t. I had to skip some of his lines, especially when he tried to do an older lady’s voice. His voice acting drops my 7 star rating down to a 4 star rating. If you have the time, read the book! Or maybe find the audiobook somewhere. If not.... well it’s still an excellent book.

A lot in this book!

There are reasons the show varies from the book. A lot would not have translated well onto screen. I wonder why this one is so much more dramatic and eventful compared to the others. Was he feeling rushed or done? very good though but long and much to take in.
