Publisher's summary

Merry Gentry, ex-private detective and full-time princess, is now the mother of triplets, a rarity in the high ranks of faerie. And not everyone is happy about it, including Taranis, King of Light and Illusion. He’s using the human courts to sue for visitation rights, claiming that one of the babies is his. To save herself and her children, Merry will use the most dangerous powers in all of faerie: A god of death, a warrior known as the Darkness, the Killing Frost, and a king of nightmares. They are her lovers, and her dearest loves, and they will face down the might of the high courts of faerie - while trying to keep the war from spreading to innocent humans in Los Angeles, who are in danger of becoming collateral damage.

The Best Ending❣ (?)

I loved it! I cried, I laughed and was so caught up in the story that even the scary parts were scary for me! Laurel K Hamilton
has artfully brought the series to a wonderful conclusion....or maybe not....Good Read.

Enjoyed the story but...

I loved meeting the babies, triplets! The narrator mispronounced several names, did she even read the previous stories?

One problem with the narration

Great story, but why did the narrator choose to give all the police, medical personal, well, basically all the civilians in LA, California British accents instead of American accents? This has me completely baffled. Otherwise the performance was good, even though she chose to give Doyle a Scottish accent instead of an Irish accent.

don't listen to Eleanors review

The fae are literally from Europe.... they aren't American

the only thing I find annoying is how this narrator says seelie and unseelie "selluuuhhh" but compared to laurel merlington from 7 of the books that couldn't say Doyle or Mistrial (Dole and Mist-rye-ell) ill take it

Narrator

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

Yes

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes

Any additional comments?

Stick with the original narrator. The characters all sound different and funny (not in a good way).

OK STORY

First why the nightflyers' king had to die, all the useless men that could have died so is Frost next? Why didn't she just touch her uncle King of Light and turn him into a forever ball of flesh! Last Marys voice not good not good ALL THIS TIME WAITING and THIS IS WHAT WE GET

Worth the Wait, but DAMN!

Sense this is an Audible review, let me start by explaining why I gave the performance one star while I wish I could have given it zero. First this book is narrated by a new voice, and all though I understand why the previous readers might not be available, this was welcomed for several reasons. First, no one gave her access to the name pronunciation guide from the back of one of the previous volumes. This is probably not just her fault alone, so blame for this should be shared with the incompetent that produced this book. The most egregious and unforgivable mispronunciation was Ivy, a former vegetative deity, who's name is pronounced like the plant, not pronounced like a pokemon with a polymorphic evolution. That's right folks, she pronounced it Eevee. Additionally, the reader seems to have but one Irish accent in her repertoire and I found this very distracting. Please do your best to bring Claudia Black back for the next book.

The story was astounding. Although, I find it ironic that if you read the first three chapters and the last five, you basically got the entire story in a nutshell. I could go on with more details but they would be basically one giant set of spoilers and I choose not to do so. Please listen to this book. The performance is flawed, but the book itself is solid and I look forward to the next Merry Gentry book. May it not be five years for the next one.

A thought-provoking read.

I have just read the entire Merry Jentry series, and I enjoyed them all. Plenty of action, emotion, and suspense. Merry can be kind, and I like her strong sense of fair play. She can also be nasty when she has to be. Warning: never threaten one of her loved ones, or you will seriously wish you hadn't. The only thing that kept me from giving this a 5 star rating is that the whole series could do with a little less of the bedroom scenes. We really don't need a description of every part of the sexual act. Also, Merry can't seem to say or do anything without being wrapped in the arms of one or more men. I would like to see her become a little more independent of them. Outside of that, a very good book.

Disgusted! Killing one of the best characters. 😡

I am disappointed there is much rehashing of the earlier books. It started promising. However in the middle of the book I've spent 4 hours listening to rehashing and maybe 20 min of new content. Then the author kills a main hero. Why ffs. Senseless to kill him off. It won't be the same story without him.
