A Princess of Mars is the first book in Edgar Rice Burroughs' Barsoom series. Full of swordplay and daring feats, it remains the best example of 20th century pulp science fiction.

I was surprised about how well read this book was, I wasn't expecting much out of it, considering the price tag was so cheap. Having picked up the other books in the series for 4-5$ a pop, this one had been the best performance out of the whole lot.
After getting through most of the second book, read by somebody else that frequently started off bad and had to work his way up to "eh, it's ok." 5min after they started reading a new segment.... THIS reading of "A Princess of Mars" was by far better.
I would suggest picking up this version of the book. It is the right price if you are just wanting to get introduced to the series.
Yes,It's like living the adventure, in your mind. But a whole different experience than watching the movie.
When John Carter was returned to earth
Enjoyed it emmensly
No, just nostalgia
Edgar Rice Burroughs is an author that I have heard a lot about, but have never taken the time to get to know. He is sexist and racist, but also a whole lot of fun. If you can overlook some of the dated ideas and just enjoy the story it will be worth your time.
A fantastic story!
John Carter because it was an adventure that I could see myself in.
An excellent reader.
Nothing extreme just a very good story.
I hope you have all the john Carter books.
The version of "A Princess of Mars" that I first read (about 10 years ago) must have been a bawdlerized, abridged version that stripped Burrough's prose of its grandeur, because I wondered why *anyone* would get excited over John Carter and Dejah Thoris. Listening to this audiobook, I was seized by the variety and precision of the wording ERB used to lift an otherwise pulp-worthy story into the realm of cult classics.
Granted these stories about Mars were written a long time ago. However, despite the good performance, I had a hard time staying with the story line and action, partly because the characters were flat and the character motives and desires weren't clear. I'll probably listen to the next book in the series to see if it makes more sense.
