Stellar

As always,Kim Harrison delivers a non-stop read. As I read I see the characters in my mind. This book made me think of Sam Elliot as Wade.

Good Action and Danger with Characters I like

Would you listen to A Perfect Blood again? Why?

Yes although I am ready to listen to Ever After now! I hadn't listened to one of the Hollow books for about a year. I found I really enjoyed catching up with the characters again. The back story is filled in well so you don't feel like you've missed too much. Rachel, as usual, rushes in without a good plan and backup. This is particularly dangerous as she is wearing a bracelet that protects her from being pulled into the Ever After but also prevents her from accessing many of her magic powers through ley line use. Rachel and Winona must escape to save themselves and to keep the group from using more of Rachel's demon blood. Every time it looks like the HAPA criminals are caught they slip through the net and it soon appears that they are getting inside information.

What was one of the most memorable moments of A Perfect Blood?

I liked the surprise effect when Rachel uses the ring Trent gave her to try to jump out of a dangerous situation.

Have you listened to any of Marguerite Gavin’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have listened to all the Hollow's books. Ms. Gavin does a fabulous job distinguishing the characters. She is able to get a snarky, Pixie voice for Jenks and a deep, slow voice for the gargoyle, Biz. She inflects the nervousness of Nina the new vampire as well as the arrogance when she is possessed by Felix, the old vampire. Ms. Gavin adds intensity and mood, fear and weariness, with her excellent reading. I have listened to all the books in this series and I do enjoy the voices! Ms. Gavin may have had a bit of a cold as some of the reading sounded a little nasal. It wasn't enough to effect my enjoyment.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I like the friendship that continues to grow between Rachel and Trent.

Any additional comments?

I enjoy the action in this series even with Rachel’s misadventures and tendency to rush into trouble. I like the friendship with David, her werepack 'leader', and I love Jenks and his vibrant vitality and love. I am very curious to see what's in store for Rachel as she faces the dangers in the next book and as she continues to try to resist her feelings for Trent.

HAPA Happy Day

Was it slow? Yes but Rachel is at a turning point, she has had to come with the terms of her new status, give her some room. Harrison is building a new plot again she needed this filler book to get us there. I missed Al he will definitely be around in the future.

Another great installment

In this volume, Rachel deals with a hate-group that wants to annihilate all magical/supernatural species, and they need her blood to accomplish their mission. A few engaging new characters are introduced. I am particularly fond of Wade, Rachel's bodyguard. And Rachel and Trent learn to be friends. (Friendship really is the basis of all great relationships.) It is a solid installment to a really interesting series. And yes; Marguerite Gavin is wonderful.

Was expecting bettter.

Would have been better if Rachel, being demon, kicked more butt, rather than her butt getting kicked. Would like to see her a bit more bad ass. I still enjoyed the book and love all the characters, Looking forward to the next one, hopefully it will come out soon.

More of the same

If you haven't read any of the Hollows series you really should not start here. While you likely wouldn't be lost you would be short changing yourself out of a lot of surprises.

That being said, people who are returning to the series will find more of the same. If you've enjoyed the books as much as I have that is good news.

Now I gave the story 4 stars because the main plot that has been developing across the recent books doesn't really progress much, which is a bit disappointing. Don't get me wrong the plot does introduce a new group of friends or foes? and adds a bit of character development.

As has been the case all along Marguerite Gavin continues her great performance and really adds a lot of enjoyment to the book. Without her these books might lose a lot.

In the end if you've read the last few Hollow's book you will really enjoy this one too but don't expect any great shifts or revelations. But it does a great job to set up the next book and I can't wait.

gets better and better

I did not instantly fall in love with this series in fact I have just been reading them just because I needed something to read. I stuck with them and I'm glad I did because this book and the previous two are my favorites. Finally things are going the way I feel as though they should be and finally the things that I felt should happen are happening. For one she finally got somebody on her side, fighting for her. First Pierce, then the IS guy in the van, and now Trent. I mean I understand the need to build tension but most of the books have just been like watching Prison break where every single person she trusts turns on her and it gets really really infuriating after a while and not really fun reading. it becomes super formulaic and when it happens you get to the point where you're like "yep saw that coming". Marguerite Gavin of course embodies Rachel and has a great voice for all the other characters. SPOILER GRIPE- DONT READ IF YOU HAVEN'T READ THIS BOOK- I got to be honest though it's really really stupid to have the IS guy in the previous book yell at Oliver and tell him that he's going to leave her alone and not bother her anymore or else, and then in this book turn around and do the same thing to her that Oliver was doing. Trying to blame her for something she didn't do and blackmailing her, why can't people just ask her to do stuff it's not like she'll say no?
