A New World: RETURN | [John O'Brien]

A New World: RETURN

Jack Walker journeyed halfway around the world and completed his daring rescue. He must now return home, traversing a world filled with endless hordes of night runners; the genetically altered, ferocious species that now inhabit the dark recesses left over from the demise of mankind and now dominate the planet. The only things more dominate are the billions of corpses left to rot where they died. It is through this world that Jack must use his special forces training to lead a small group of survivors back home to where there is the faint hope of sanctuary.

Publisher's Summary

Jack Walker journeyed halfway around the world and completed his daring rescue. He must now return home, traversing a world filled with endless hordes of night runners; the genetically altered, ferocious species that now inhabit the dark recesses left over from the demise of mankind and now dominate the planet. The only things more dominate are the billions of corpses left to rot where they died. It is through this world that Jack must use his special forces training to lead a small group of survivors back home to where there is the faint hope of sanctuary. His training is pushed to the limits as he is confronted with situation after situation coming face to face with the night runners. He must walk that delicate, fine edge between action and keeping his kids out of harm's way; between taking risks and turning away as he continues his quest for survival. Never having walked away from risky situations, Jack must now carefully weigh his decisions as the stakes are much higher. His kids' very safety hangs in the balance, along with the safety of the few remaining survivors.

This gripping, action-packed tale tells Jack's story of survival in a post-apocalyptic world filled with peril. Safety is the dream. Nightmare is the reality. A nightmare where danger lurks around every corner.

    Story
"new narrator would be nice but it's ok."
    Any additional comments?

the story itself was...meh. I usually go through a book every two days but this one has taken me almost a month because the author would basically go into long descriptions and history on miniscule things. I'm expecting the author to go into deep detail on the most minute little things like "The web gear I was wearing was created by Derpy Derp, who was a single male in his 20's, who loved long walks on the beach and always wondered if the barista that made his coffee every day thought aliens would look funny wearing a big Santa Hat." not literally but he would detour from the story to do crap like that. the story itself was pretty good but it could've done without some stuff.

    Story
    "Another so-so"
Is there anything you would change about this book?

It would not be in first person, present tense. It makes the narration awkward.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

The type of zombies. The least interesting, the overkill on the plane procedures, just like the first book. I'm convinced the author had a part in the writing the ACTUAL manual on how to fly the C-130.

Which character – as performed by Christopher John Fetherolf – was your favorite?

    The main hero.

Do you think A New World: RETURN needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

    Leaves you hanging.

    Any additional comments?

I will probably only get the next book if it's on sale.

    Story
"Better book than 1 but who narrated it? narration"
Would you listen to A New World: RETURN again? Why?

yes as i am getting into the story and want to relate to shrouded world.

How could the performance have been better?

what happened the narrator was weird..... did not enjoy narration and stupid music, really terrible narration and annoying weird disco between each chapter.

    Any additional comments?

I really enjoyed the story but to be honest this narrator ruined the story quite a lot and then some weirdo disco between chapters was infuriating ..... saying that the book as a whole was good and could have been so much better with the other narrator. I will get book 3 only if narrated by someone else.
