The complete, unabridged audiobook of A Game of Thrones.
HBO’s hit series A Game of Thrones is based on George R. R. Martin’s internationally best-selling series A Song of Ice and Fire, the greatest fantasy epic of the modern age. A Game of Thrones is the first volume in the series.
Summers span decades. Winter can last a lifetime. And the struggle for the Iron Throne has begun.
As Warden of the north, Lord Eddard Stark counts it a curse when King Robert bestows on him the office of the Hand. His honour weighs him down at court where a true man does what he will, not what he must...and a dead enemy is a thing of beauty.
The old gods have no power in the south, Stark’s family is split and there is treachery at court. Worse, the vengeance-mad heir of the deposed Dragon King has grown to maturity in exile in the Free Cities. He claims the Iron Throne.

"A Game of Thrones grabs hold and won’t let go. It’s brilliant." (Robert Jordan)
"Colossal, staggering... Martin captures all the intoxicating complexity of the Wars of the Roses or Imperial Rome in his imaginary world...one of the greats of fantasy literature." (SFX)
"Fantasy literature has never shied away from grandeur, but the sheer-mind-boggling scope of this epic has sent other fantasy writers away shaking their heads… Its ambition: to construct the Twelve Caesars of fantasy fiction, with characters so venomous they could eat the Borgias." (Guardian)

I really enjoyed the book. It has filled in a few gaps for me alongside the TVs series
"Couldn't stop listening"
33 hours flew by in a matter of weeks and far quicker than I was expecting to have it finished by. Having seen the television series, I knew what was going to happen but all the extra detail that you get with the book adds another level to the appreciation.
Roy Dotrice narrates the book well but as this is my first audio book I have nothing to compare his performance to.
I will be downloading the next book in the series as soon as I receive my next credit.
"A brilliant tale"
A book that actually lives up to the hype. The narrator really brought this story to life. Totally recommend.
"Applause for this gripping story"
Listening to this story is a wonderful adventure. The narrator paints the pictures of westros clearly in his descriptions . I was on the edge of my seat to hear what happens next.
"Hard to get in to"
I struggled to get into this ab. I think maybe i was against it because of the tv show.
"Winter is coming"
Yes I would give it another listen because the story and the character would never get old.
I got to say the lord of the rings.
I loved the way he did Tyrion character he just made it more funny.
I don't want to say because it give to much away.
"Lots of mistakes in the reading"
The story is great but there are lots of mispronunciations in the reading which is quite irritating e.g. Joffrey-Jeffrey, Caitalyn- Kate-lyn, niche- nish. Would expect a bit better given the price.
"Wonderful Story, Bizarre Performance"
Possible, I think the performance of Tyrion is the one I struggle with the most, there's no denying the power of the story, I'm not sure the performance helps.
Is this a serious question?
I'm keen to complete the series but the performance has soured it somewhat. I'm not sure I'm wholly critical of Roy Dotrice, surely the decision to apply voices to characters is one that would be taken by a producer or director? Why oh why couldn't the story just have been told? A different commentator suggested it assisted the listener in identifying characters, however we're not children and this is not a child's story.
"Great story but poor performance"
If you have seen the show or read the books prior to listening then prepare to be underwhelmed. The narrator fails to capture the emotion and miss reads names etc. Voices that he uses for certain characters, he uses for bitters abs then different ones for that and character. Massively disappointed
loved it second time around now just incase i messed anything, listen to it at work really gets me through the day.
