Great Story, Decent telling

I first read this book 12 years ago, and still love it. That being said, mispronounced names were very jarring.

Top 3 favorite series

Roy brings these books alive in a way I never could staring at the pages. I love listening to this series more than I even love the show, I will listen to these dozens of times each in my life time. I love it!

One of the best books I've read this year.

Reminded me of The Stand, or Lonesome Dove. A sweeping epic with many characters to learn.

What does Roy Dotrice bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

His accents and voices bring the characters to life.

Roy Dotrice does a masterful job of illustrating the complexities of Martin's characters; his accents are entertaining and perhaps most impressively, they're consistent.

For those who are avid GOT fans it might take a period of adjustment to hear favourite characters with unfamiliar accents; that said, if you're a fan, you're a fan - and Roy Dotrice takes you along on George R. R. Martin's exhilarating journey of a Song of Ice and Fire.

For those of you who have read the books and are avid fans of the series, I'd recommend that you listen to A Knight of The Seven Kingdoms and The World of Ice and Fire before restarting ASOIAF; it gives a wonderful contextual background to the story. Listening to it again has made the series far more interesting than it has been in previous attempts!

Wonderful narrartor

Would you consider the audio edition of A Game of Thrones to be better than the print version?

Absolutely! The narrator brings the story to life with many different voices and sounds.

Wow

I couldn't help but pick this one up after all of the good things I've heard about both the book and TV adaptation. I'd also heard some literary criticism of George R. R. Martin's writing style, which wile valid, were only relevant in the strictest sense of a scholarly English critique. The universe of Game of Thrones is one full of wonder and fantasy, with heroes and villains alike all imagined in vivid detail. Each house with their arms, ancestry, and decoration are presented for the reader's mind to envision. In that sense I have very much enjoyed the ride and the story itself has gripped me the entire way through.

Roy Dotrice has a great voice. Each character's annunciation comes to life with such range that I am never at a loss to know who is speaking. He has the perfect blend of rasp and masculinity for men, innocence and delicacy for children, and sternness and confidence for the leading women. I can't wait to hear more in the sequels.

Sound quality of the recording itself is very good. I feel no need to adjust the EQ settings while listening in my car. I am not an audiophile, but SQ is important to me and I am especially bothered by poor recordings. This product does not disappoint!
