Publisher's summary

Kevin J. Anderson is the author of 27 national best sellers and several books in the popular Dune, Star Wars, and X-Files series. Forest of Stars is the second book in his acclaimed Saga of Seven Suns series, which begins with Hidden Empire.

Early in the 25th century, humans ignited a fierce war with the hydrogues. Now the gas-giant planets, once a major source of fuel for Earth, are off limits, and the fearsome hydrogues scour the solar system, incinerating humans and the trees of the worldforest. As political unrest spreads throughout Earth's space colonies, a possible ally is discovered: an ancient race of water-based creatures. But is it too late to stop the war?

Forest of Stars is a breathtaking science fiction epic, encompassing the power of galactic politics and the poetry of private dreams. Audie Award-winning narrator Geroge Guidall voices each character, whether human or alien, with dramatic intensity in a work that seems written for audio.

Critic reviews

"Best seller Anderson turns up the heat in his second Saga of the Seven Suns installment, proving he has firepower to burn. He weaves action, romance and science with a rousing plot reflecting the classic SF of Clarke and Herbert and the glossy cinematic influence of Lucas and Spielberg....This saga soars." Love the entire series!

This series was one of the types of SciFi books that introduced me to 'book series'!

I never really knew books can continue into a series or sometimes called Trilogy.

Audible brought me back to books.

I loved this series. It kept me engaged and I loved the characters.

This was a little different than my typical sci-fi books that I like but close enough.

I don't know if I'm using the correct term but it felt like I was reading an opera. A sci-fi opera but with works.

Today, I decided to actually post some reviews for the very first time. I have been using Audible for many years now. Maybe if you like my selections that means your into the same books as I am in and I will read your selections if that's possible now, to share someone else's book list?

Narrator changed his style a little

Good book, decent pace. But, narrator changed from the first books a few voices...almost like he didn’t go back and listen to his acting of the first book.

Minor details though. Great choice overall.

Once you start this series, you won't want to stop

If you could sum up A Forest of Stars in three words, what would they be?

Action, suspense, anticipation

What was one of the most memorable moments of A Forest of Stars?

The story of Jess Tamblin, the story of Neera.

What about George Guidall’s performance did you like?

He is very animated. I like that his voice gets excited when the story is exciting

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Yes, but I don't want to spoil the story.

Any additional comments?

As I said in my title, you won't want to stop. This series is addicting.

That Escalated Fast

The main conflict of the saga continues to grow in scale, emotions are heightened, things look bleak and yet there are some great moments and twists along the way.

The characters are more fleshed out, and new interesting characters and variables are presented.

A Solid Follow-Up to Hidden Empire

4 of 5 stars.

Kevin Anderson continues with the story arc threads from Hidden Empire and new facets of the Spiral Arm are introduced. The war with the Hydrogues heats up and potential new allies are discovered. Long but good - some threads are more interesting than others.

On the downside, some characters are a bit one-sided, even cartoonish (i.e. military leader always aggressive, villains always villainous). Perhaps that’s part of Space Opera?

George Guidall is excellent, as always.

An Excellent Series worth a listen

I'm a BIG science fiction fan, and I can truthfully say that this is one of the best books that I've come across. Kevin Anderson has an interesting writing style with VERY long books, but short chapters. (I haven't read any other books by Kevin Anderson, so I don't know if all of his books are so large or if was specific to this series.) The short chapters keep the action going and keep things interesting.

Great Stuff

I loved this book! The events and the characters just kept getting more interesting and I found myself getting drawn more and more to the characters. As soon as I finished it I got the next one in the series.

Its sweep is enormous and things, as in real life, are often not as they were believed to be. The reader is great, the story is great and the characters are multi-faceted. What else could one ask of a book?
