Publisher's summary

Now an original series starring Rosamund Pike as Moiraine!

Since its debut in 1990, The Wheel of Time® by Robert Jordan has captivated millions of readers around the globe with its scope, originality, and compelling characters.

The Wheel of Time turns and Ages come and go, leaving memories that become legend. Legend fades to myth, and even myth is long forgotten when the Age that gave it birth returns again. In the Third Age, an Age of Prophecy, the World and Time themselves hang in the balance. What was, what will be, and what is, may yet fall under the Shadow.

The seals of Shayol Ghul are weak now, and the Dark One reaches out. The Shadow is rising to cover humankind.

In Tar Valon, Min sees portents of hideous doom. Will the White Tower itself be broken?

In the Two Rivers, the Whitecloaks ride in pursuit of a man with golden eyes, and in pursuit of the Dragon Reborn.

In Cantorin, among the Sea Folk, High Lady Suroth plans the return of the Seanchan armies to the mainland.

In the Stone of Tear, the Lord Dragon considers his next move. It will be something no one expects, not the Black Ajah, not Tairen nobles, not Aes Sedai, not Egwene or Elayne or Nynaeve.

Against the Shadow rising stands the Dragon Reborn...

Critic reviews

"Amid all the Sturm und Drang...is a finely tuned comic strain that both leavens the story and adds to its development. This latest installment of a major fantasy epic definitely will not disappoint its fans." (Booklist)

Battle of the sexes and abrupt endings

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

This, like all of the books in this series, kept me listening/reading from the start to the finish. The complaint I have about Robert Jordan is the extreme battle of the sexes in every single society. Everyone thinks they are in charge. All of that is well and dandy except that it's thrown out there so often it gets extremely old.
This book ended with a lot of loose strings. So much was left open it hardly felt like an ending of a book at all. It seems like all of the previous books had more clear and precise endings while still leaving strings for the rest of the series.
All of that said, I love these books.

they're all great

this entire series is amazing I only regret finding so late in life. I'm hoping the television adaptation is not utter nonsense.

Fantastic

This book was above and beyond my expectations. It was a little slow to start, yet once it got rolling there was no turning back.
I recommend this to anyone who is a fan of the series.

the story grows

another great addition to the wheel of time story. I love how the books flow from one to another with clear highs ans lows but none seem to be fighting to out do something else.
as for the performance I feel like Kramer changed the voice acting of Elayne somewhere in the last 1/4 of the book.
otherwise splinded reading as expected

Some call this the beginning of "the slog" but

I found it an exciting and quick read. Less of a slog than Book 6.

I'll say it again

I've read the series before, so obviously I enjoy the story. I just wish the narrators could have made use of the glossary in the back of the book & gotten the pronunciation of original vocabulary correct. otherwise, good job

Mediocre

If you could sum up A Crown of Swords in three words, what would they be?

Mediocre, filler, and...?

What does Kate Reading and Michael Kramer bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Made a plodding book mildly interesting

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

It was a book I could listen to all in one sitting if you cut out everything uninteresting.

Any additional comments?

Chose not to finish, not because it was bad per say, but because the series has been too long already. It definitely didn't not live up to some of the comments I remember reading.
