Publisher's summary

Now an original series starring Rosamund Pike as Moiraine!

Since its debut in 1990, The Wheel of Time® by Robert Jordan has captivated millions of readers around the globe with its scope, originality, and compelling characters.

The Wheel of Time turns and Ages come and go, leaving memories that become legend. Legend fades to myth, and even myth is long forgotten when the Age that gave it birth returns again. In the Third Age, an Age of Prophecy, the World and Time themselves hang in the balance. What was, what will be, and what is, may yet fall under the Shadow.

The seals of Shayol Ghul are weak now, and the Dark One reaches out. The Shadow is rising to cover humankind.

In Tar Valon, Min sees portents of hideous doom. Will the White Tower itself be broken?

In the Two Rivers, the Whitecloaks ride in pursuit of a man with golden eyes, and in pursuit of the Dragon Reborn.

In Cantorin, among the Sea Folk, High Lady Suroth plans the return of the Seanchan armies to the mainland.

In the Stone of Tear, the Lord Dragon considers his next move. It will be something no one expects, not the Black Ajah, not Tairen nobles, not Aes Sedai, not Egwene or Elayne or Nynaeve.

Against the Shadow rising stands the Dragon Reborn...

Critic reviews

"Amid all the Sturm und Drang...is a finely tuned comic strain that both leavens the story and adds to its development. This latest installment of a major fantasy epic definitely will not disappoint its fans." (Booklist)

Better story line

Matt was the best character development in this book. Nyneeve was particularly annoying - her character needs to mature as much as her character claims others need the same. The weave of the forsaken is getting better as these characters are elucidated in the story. Some new characters have promise - we’ll see how they evolve.

Performers are awesome!!!!

Incredible series. This book is one of my least favorite.

First off, I adore this series. Robert Jordan is my favorite author of all time. But…

Although it moves the story forward and has notable good parts, this book as a whole is my least favorite of my favorite series.

It has parts that are truncated and the story being told from perspectives that are not integral to the plot seemingly just so they get more face time. I love Matt, but why did we find out about Lan’s return in his storyline and not through the eyes of his wife? And what happened to Matt? Dropping a building on him and leaving it as a cliff-hanger is not my favorite.

And once again, we find that the antagonist is “dead” but we don’t see that happen again…. Did Rand not learn from Ishmael?

My only consolation is that I know that Jordan tied a bunch of that up in the next book. But even reading this book for myself (on paper), I felt it could have been skipped over or added to another and it would have been better than creating this portion of the story as a standalone.

This seems like the weak link in the series so far

This book feels like one of the weakest of the series. I'm conflicted it had one of the coolest scenes but also really lagged on stuck on one plot point for a while.

author spends too much time describing clothing.

author is obsessed with fashion and cleavage. it's a bit much and so much wasted time spent on bickering and haughty women.

Should be better

A lot of unnecessary politicking, discussion and bickering between characters. this makes most sections tedious to listen to with zero advancement to the story or character development. The same story and amount of immersion could have been done in half the amount of time.

Good

This one was a bit harder for me to get through than many of the others, so much pain, hurt and frustration, very little positive things happening. Looking forward to the rest though.

Love Wheel of time!

Still don’t love two narrators, but hardly notice anymore. Great story. Definitely recommend it for fantasy lovers.
