Critic reviews

"Hamilton weaves the modern and magical seamlessly in a compelling tale of the effects of three kinds of power - magical, sexual, and the most dangerous, political." ( Booklist)

Great Adult Fantasy Series --

If your not shy about very well written sex scenes, that are also important to the storyline, than this series is a wild ride. Princess Meridith is descended from several fertility goddesses, so naturally her greatest power is expressed in the bedroom. Her lovers are all beings who have lost their power, and consequently, the world of the fey is dying -- but through her, they, and the fey, are revitalized. As a fiction writer, I find Ms. Hamilton's depictions to be a masterclass in writing a compelling sex scene. As a fan, I am endlessly entertained by her originality, and the courage of her convictions to tell the story as it is meant to be told. Having read the series, I'm now enjoying the audio books, just as much, if not more. The narrator is perfect.

For those who find it to be too much, I say, quit complaining and move along. This series is meant for adults. Go read Harry Potter. Again.

Great Story- Terrible Narrator

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

Laurell K Hamilton is a first rate story teller. Her characters are vivid and realistic with wonderful growth and change through out the series.

What was one of the most memorable moments of A Caress of Twilight?

Well I can't say that or its a spoiler!

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Laural Merlington?

Kimberly Alexis!

Was A Caress of Twilight worth the listening time?

Yes

Any additional comments?

If you are going to read a book that has Gaelic based names etc please learn how to pronounce them. Sioban is not pronounced "See o Ban" it's pronounced "Shivan" for example!

Good story...Horrible narrator!

When I first started listening to the book, I thought possibly my Ipod had broken down. The narrator sounds like she's been fed through a machine somehow. Very jarring and poor character voices. I'm finding it difficult to follow along on the story because of the narration. Great story, but poor narration.

Addicted

I just can't get enough of the Meredith Gentry Series. It contains all aspects I crave Fantasy, Romance, Drama, Action, and Humor sprinkled throughout each climaxing novel. I often find myself longing to be part "She" so much so that I'd gladly except relations to the lesser Fey. Laurell K Hamilton I salute your ability to weave a tale that makes me want to pay almost anything just to get my next fix.

good story, terrible narrator

good story, terrible narrator. It almost ruins the book when she trys to do a Cornish accent. She is good for female voices but trying to do mens voices is like nails on chalkboard

Male voices hurt

Listening to this narrator read male voices physically hurt. You cant tell who is who because they all sound like members from the lollypop guild.

character name issues

Forgot to mention in my review of the first book in this series is that the narator changes the pronunciation of the characters from book to book. This distracts from the naration immensly.

The Nameless and the Narrator

I have to say when I read this series I liked this book better than the first even. We learn more about the fey and Merry's men and there's a really neat twist for the "bad guy". So, thankfully the story is the same so that's why the 4 stars. The narrator is not so great. She doesn't take the time to learn how to pronouce things properly and that's a really annoying habit in a narrator. Her inflection and voices improved though so I'm hoping by the end of the series she'll be able to do a decent job. Thank goodenss this was whisperlink and only $3.99. Not a credit worthy performance otherwise.

A plot?

Despite that fact that the narrator is excellent, this is the only audio book that I could not complete. I have no idea what the plot is after 4-5 hours of listening.

Narrator mispronouncing names throws me off

I love this entire series of books. I got the audio books to share it with my partner.

I like the narrator, I find her voice pleasant and her cadence enjoyable. I'm not a huge fan of some of her male voices, but that is to a decent degree, because they are so different than how I've always envisioned the characters and their voices (Doyle and Rhys, especially).

My problem comes when I started the second book and noticed that Siobhan's name pronunciation went from 'shee-obahn' to 'cy-o-ban' (the correct pronunciation is shivon') '. I'd always thought the second was correct, until talking to an Irish friend years ago, so hearing this 1. Change in name pronunciation and 2. Something so wrong... It was jarring to me. The only upside was that Siobhan is only mentioned once.
