Publisher's Summary

"I am Princess Meredith, heir to a throne - if I can stay alive long enough to claim it. My cousin, Prince Cel, is determined to see that I don't. As long as we both live, we are in a race for the crown; whichever one of us reproduces first gets the throne.

"So now the men of my royal guard - frightening warriors skilled with blade, spell, and gun - have become my lovers, auditioning with pleasure for the role of future king and father of my child. And they must still protect me from assasination attempts - for unlike most fey, I am part human, and very mortal.

"All this royal backstabbing makes it difficult for me to pursue my living as a private investigator in Los Angeles, especially since the media made sure the whole world knows the Faerie princess is alive and well in sunny California.

"Now, in the City of Angels, people are dying in mysterious, frightening ways. What the human police don't realize is that the killer is hunting fey as well. Havoc lies on the horizon; the very existence of the place known as Faerie is at grave risk.

"So now, while I enjoy the greatest pleasures of my life with my guardians, I must fend off an ancient evil that could destroy the very fabric of reality. And that's just my day job."

What the Critics Say

"Hamilton weaves the modern and magical seamlessly in a compelling tale of the effects of three kinds of power - magical, sexual, and the most dangerous, political." (Booklist)

    "Great Adult Fantasy Series --"

If your not shy about very well written sex scenes, that are also important to the storyline, than this series is a wild ride. Princess Meridith is descended from several fertility goddesses, so naturally her greatest power is expressed in the bedroom. Her lovers are all beings who have lost their power, and consequently, the world of the fey is dying -- but through her, they, and the fey, are revitalized. As a fiction writer, I find Ms. Hamilton's depictions to be a masterclass in writing a compelling sex scene. As a fan, I am endlessly entertained by her originality, and the courage of her convictions to tell the story as it is meant to be told. Having read the series, I'm now enjoying the audio books, just as much, if not more. The narrator is perfect.

For those who find it to be too much, I say, quit complaining and move along. This series is meant for adults. Go read Harry Potter. Again.

    "Addicted"

I just can't get enough of the Meredith Gentry Series. It contains all aspects I crave Fantasy, Romance, Drama, Action, and Humor sprinkled throughout each climaxing novel. I often find myself longing to be part "She" so much so that I'd gladly except relations to the lesser Fey. Laurell K Hamilton I salute your ability to weave a tale that makes me want to pay almost anything just to get my next fix.

    "The Nameless and the Narrator"

I have to say when I read this series I liked this book better than the first even. We learn more about the fey and Merry's men and there's a really neat twist for the "bad guy". So, thankfully the story is the same so that's why the 4 stars. The narrator is not so great. She doesn't take the time to learn how to pronouce things properly and that's a really annoying habit in a narrator. Her inflection and voices improved though so I'm hoping by the end of the series she'll be able to do a decent job. Thank goodenss this was whisperlink and only $3.99. Not a credit worthy performance otherwise.

    "There is something"

This was the second book by this author that I have listened too and though overall I have to say the storyline is completely outrageous and sort of silly-it is interesting in a voyeuristic kind of way. Seriously. I do not believe that it would be possible for someone to have as much "passion"; as the main character is supposed to have and admit I am compelled at least little to see if she does become with child and if so-will she know of the father is. So yes, despite only a 3 star rating, I will be getting the next book-purely to satisfy the above questions.

    "Good story...Horrible narrator!"

When I first started listening to the book, I thought possibly my Ipod had broken down. The narrator sounds like she's been fed through a machine somehow. Very jarring and poor character voices. I'm finding it difficult to follow along on the story because of the narration. Great story, but poor narration.

    "Love it!"
Where does A Caress of Twilight rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I would say this book is second only to the first in the series.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I absolutely adore Meredith Gentry, but her cast of guards make the story compelling for me.

What does Laural Merlington bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Laural Merlington accentuates the personality quirks of the characters, making them real, distinct, and powerful. She brings the whole cast to life.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

This book made me laugh out loud countless times. There are emotional moments, and steamy moments, but the interactions between the characters make for some memorable scenes.

    Any additional comments?

I am SO glad that these books were my first exposure to audiobooks. I can't stop listening. I am hooked.

    "Okay...."

This book was not as good as the first. While it was okay, it did not have me running to pick up the third book in the series. Eventually I might get around to it, but not really sure when.

    "More character development-less story-still good"
    Any additional comments?

I don't understand the people complaining about plot. Have you ever heard about character development and back story? Geeeze! The woman just settled down with several very alpha males, she has new political clout and baby to beget. The first book put alot on Merry's plate and the second book is about sorting through all of that. I loved the interaction between the guards and Merry. The power plays between the men and between the men and Merry. It was wonderful to see her come into her own and realize that she would rule them and not the other way around.

We were given the barest introduction to the men in the first book. The second reveals more of them and tracks them as they are changed by Merrys affection. I liked that they were flawed, but still worth while. I loved the confrontation between Merry and Reese over Kito.

The story with Maeve was interesting. It does advance the plot line bringing the Seelie Court into play for the first time. We also get a stab at Merry's bitch of a mother; LOVED that. Not as much action in this story, but that was appropriate. As for the repetition of key facts, EVERY series does that. It is necessary for readers who jump in the middle of the series and to remind readers who read/listened to the previous stories some time ago.
    Still a really good listen.
