Audie Award Nominee, Science Fiction, 2013

Padlocked doors. Strange light fixtures. Mutant cockroaches.

There are some odd things about Nate’s new apartment. Of course, he has other things on his mind. He hates his job. He has no money in the bank. No girlfriend. No plans for the future. So while his new home isn’t perfect, it’s livable. The rent is low, the property managers are friendly, and the odd little mysteries don’t nag at him too much. At least, not until he meets Mandy, his neighbor across the hall, and notices something unusual about her apartment. And Xela’s apartment. And Tim’s. And Veek’s. Because every room in this old Los Angeles brownstone has a mystery or two. Mysteries that stretch back over a hundred years. Some of them are in plain sight. Some are behind locked doors. And all together these mysteries could mean the end of Nate and his friends. Or the end of everything....

Editorial Review

If you love a good mystery and are even remotely interested in sci-fi or horror, 14 is the perfect escapist treat, and listener-favorite narrator Ray Porter is at the top of his game in this performance. Plus if you loved LOST like I did, this book will help with those withdrawals you're likely still experiencing (just me?)Sam P., Audible Editor

A fantastic audio book

Where does 14 rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Easily ranks in the top ten

What was one of the most memorable moments of 14?

Its so good I cant think of a single moment - without spoiling the story for others.

Have you listened to any of Ray Porter’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No this is a first for me. I dont usually listen to this kind of book but I picked it based on the user reviews.

Any additional comments?

A really great audio book, plenty of twists and turns. Heaps of suspense. The narrator does a fantastic job at separating the different characters.
I highly recommend getting this book - even if its not what you usually go for its well worth the listen!

Great story

Right up my alley being a Steven King fan. Also has the space sci-fi I like.

I should have read the genre!

Enjoyed the book until the last few chapters. If course I was too far into it to not listen until the end. I'm not into sci-fi and that's where it went. Still wasn't terrible.

Cool Story!

What did you love best about 14?

I listened to this story on my two hour commute to work. I was constantly laughing because some parts were really funny (sarcasm kind of funny). I looked like a crazed driver but I enjoyed this story very much. Great work Peter Clines, I want a second book to continue the story.

What did you like best about this story?

I liked the development of Nate, he found himself as the story developed. He grew as a character in the story.

Good, not great...

I like the book, and the idea, but it seemed more fitting for a short story. There were several parts that I couldn't buy, areas where there were some odd choices, and almost filler to extend the concept into a novel. SPOILER WARNING: Some problems: First, the government is aware of the power of this building, but essentially leaves it in the hands of a single caretaker, with little oversight. The main characters work situation was distracting. He is a college graduate with no other options but to sort mail for a magazine? There was no point in making him a dead end loser. Why not make him someone in a decent job he hates. There are many reasons he would be looking for a low cost housing. I think one character is said to have graduated from college as an engineer, but he is the stupid one, and took a job as a set carpenter for movies? A computer programmer and hacker is also poor, and makes almost no money. This all made no sense, and there is no good reason it couldn't have been cleaned up.

Another version of The Langoliers

Overall , the book held my interest but at times threw me off script because of its close proximity to Seven King's The Langoliers. I give it a 6 out of 10.

A building mystery about a Mysterious Building

To avoid spoiling this fun tale, I must remain vague...for reasons. But as others have said it is a fun Scooby doo adventure that is all grown up.

The narrator, Ray Porter, did a fantastic job giving the many different characters distinct voices that were consistently applied and conveyed emotions.
