Audie Award Nominee, Science Fiction, 2013

Padlocked doors. Strange light fixtures. Mutant cockroaches.

There are some odd things about Nate’s new apartment. Of course, he has other things on his mind. He hates his job. He has no money in the bank. No girlfriend. No plans for the future. So while his new home isn’t perfect, it’s livable. The rent is low, the property managers are friendly, and the odd little mysteries don’t nag at him too much. At least, not until he meets Mandy, his neighbor across the hall, and notices something unusual about her apartment. And Xela’s apartment. And Tim’s. And Veek’s. Because every room in this old Los Angeles brownstone has a mystery or two. Mysteries that stretch back over a hundred years. Some of them are in plain sight. Some are behind locked doors. And all together these mysteries could mean the end of Nate and his friends. Or the end of everything....

Editorial Review

If you love a good mystery and are even remotely interested in sci-fi or horror, 14 is the perfect escapist treat, and listener-favorite narrator Ray Porter is at the top of his game in this performance. Plus if you loved LOST like I did, this book will help with those withdrawals you're likely still experiencing (just me?)Sam P., Audible Editor

Great Listen

I loved this book. It was a great combination of mystery, science fiction, and horror. I'd recommend this book to anyone that likes any of the three.

Narration outstanding, Characters fun

Spooky house meet Sci Fi with a hint of Saturday morning cartoons. Kind of like renting an apartment in the mystery machine. Characters are quirky enjoyable. The story has a good mix of humor and suspense. Overall a very good book. I did find the last ¼ to be a bit of a letdown. This is the first book I have read by Peter Clines. I will look at his other works. Ray Porter is great. I would recommend this story for the fan of light Sci Fi mysteries. Worth the credit.

A crazy story.

I'm still wondering why people die in a certain apartment why the bugs are there? And why the manager doesn't try to help them. It's was pretty good but after they get 14 open It becomes a little crazy. A would prefer a different ending with more questions and answers.

Very entertaining

Any additional comments?

This was a great purchase, one of those books I just couldn't turn off. I highly recommend 14 to anyone who can take a little bit of the weird (ie, monsters). This isn't a work of literary art in the conventional sense, or a great intellectual feat. It's a gripping story that sucks you in and leaves you wanting more.

Truly a Masterpiece

Any additional comments?

I bought this book because of all of the reviews. I have to say I was not disappointed. Once it was over I found myself trying to find similar books as this one defined a genre for me. Has to be one of my favorite books ever. Just sit back and enjoy the mystery!

Scientific mystery

This book starts off a bit slow, but makes up for that half way though. You will not want to put it down because you'll want to know what happens next. I enjoyed this book. I am impressed with the narrator. He did the voices quite well, even did a female pretending to speak in a male voice. The ending was awesome. I am happy to have listened to this book.

Not What I Expected...

I was hesitant to listen to this book because I thought it would have disturbing torture in it. It doesn't. It is about futuristic concepts conceived in the late 1890's and how they impact a specific apartment's tenants today. I can't say more or I will spoil the surprises in this excellently read book!
