Audie Award Nominee, Science Fiction, 2013

Padlocked doors. Strange light fixtures. Mutant cockroaches.

There are some odd things about Nate’s new apartment. Of course, he has other things on his mind. He hates his job. He has no money in the bank. No girlfriend. No plans for the future. So while his new home isn’t perfect, it’s livable. The rent is low, the property managers are friendly, and the odd little mysteries don’t nag at him too much. At least, not until he meets Mandy, his neighbor across the hall, and notices something unusual about her apartment. And Xela’s apartment. And Tim’s. And Veek’s. Because every room in this old Los Angeles brownstone has a mystery or two. Mysteries that stretch back over a hundred years. Some of them are in plain sight. Some are behind locked doors. And all together these mysteries could mean the end of Nate and his friends. Or the end of everything....

"A wholly original story that weaves together mystery and the apocalypse like a finely tuned band." (Evan Roy, Bricks of the Dead)

Editorial Review

If you love a good mystery and are even remotely interested in sci-fi or horror, 14 is the perfect escapist treat, and listener-favorite narrator Ray Porter is at the top of his game in this performance. Plus if you loved LOST like I did, this book will help with those withdrawals you're likely still experiencing (just me?)Sam P., Audible Editor

Great characters!!

My favorites of his books are this one and The Fold. Engaging plot, relatable and unique characters and well narrated. I’ve listened to this at least four times.

A good sci-fi read. very entertaining

I enjoyed this book and the narrator is one of my favorite. It was a great story that had humor, sci-fi, and a good ending that wrapped up th8ngs well. I would highly recommend this book for anyone who likes stories like bobiverse or project hail mary. Ignore any negative reviews and get this....

Really hard to follow

Aliens, antiques, history, other dimensions, outer space, mystery, intrigue, religious fanaticism and odd relationships. The story line and events occurred rapid fire so that it was hard to remember who was who, where they were and what they were doing. there were a few instances where I missed how they reached a point and had to back track to find the transition. some I never did figure out. over all, it was entertaining and the performer's voice made it credible.

Really entertaining

Classic nerdy sci-fi, a grown up creepy Scooby Doo nightmare. Great characters and loved the building concept.

So much fun!

I’ve listened to this book several times and also recommended it to others. I love all Peter Clines’ nods and references (no spoilers here) . It’s a great ride from start to finish. I want more stories with these characters! The next book called The Fold is also great. All the books in The Threshold series are unique and not necessarily super connected in a linear fashion, but there are some common threads and ideas. Peter Clines has been in my top five fav science fiction writers since I first discovered him!

A great setup with an ending that doesn't pay off

for the first three quarters of the book, I was absolutely riveted by the setting, the characters, and the mystery of what was going on in the apartment building. unfortunately, after it's revealed what actually is happening, I think the narrative stops holding up. The book almost takes a completely different tone at that point and just isn't particularly interesting. it wound up being a slog to get to the end. A shame, because I enjoyed the first part so much.

excellent performance by the narrator though.

Great page turner

This was a great page turner. Each little reveal was fun, and krpy me listening longer than I usually do it took a turn I wasn't expecting in act 3. Ray Porter as usual kills it with his narration. Overall a great listen!
