Audie Award Nominee, Science Fiction, 2013

Padlocked doors. Strange light fixtures. Mutant cockroaches.

There are some odd things about Nate’s new apartment. Of course, he has other things on his mind. He hates his job. He has no money in the bank. No girlfriend. No plans for the future. So while his new home isn’t perfect, it’s livable. The rent is low, the property managers are friendly, and the odd little mysteries don’t nag at him too much. At least, not until he meets Mandy, his neighbor across the hall, and notices something unusual about her apartment. And Xela’s apartment. And Tim’s. And Veek’s. Because every room in this old Los Angeles brownstone has a mystery or two. Mysteries that stretch back over a hundred years. Some of them are in plain sight. Some are behind locked doors. And all together these mysteries could mean the end of Nate and his friends. Or the end of everything....

"A wholly original story that weaves together mystery and the apocalypse like a finely tuned band." (Evan Roy, Bricks of the Dead)

Editorial Review

If you love a good mystery and are even remotely interested in sci-fi or horror, 14 is the perfect escapist treat, and listener-favorite narrator Ray Porter is at the top of his game in this performance. Plus if you loved LOST like I did, this book will help with those withdrawals you're likely still experiencing (just me?)Sam P., Audible Editor

A little bizarre

Interesting concept, has remnants of a young Stephen King but the ending was a bit flat. Liked the narrator but overall it was OK.

Another winner!

If you have listened to and enjoyed "The Fold" by this same author, you will love "14." It's rather a prequel to "The Fold" but is also a great stand-alone. The narrator completely captures the spirit of the characters and never misses a cue for sarcasm, exasperation, incredulity. I laughed out loud at some of the dialogue. I hope Mr Clines has another installment in the works.

One of the best narrators EVER!!

The book was NOT my usual genre, but it was hard to stop listening. The best part of the book was the narrator - Ray Porter is amazing!!!!! Well worth the listen - give it a try!!

Couldn't put it down

I really enjoyed this book. My first Peter Cline novel but not my last. The narrator was one of the best I have ever heard. He made the characters come alive. Excellent job. I carried my phone around listening to this at every opportunity.

Vacation spot

The story is nicely done, starts slowly and builds suspense. Interesting ideas and characters. Uniquely well done. There's no way you can guess what's in room #14.

A lot...I don't think my imagination would have been as enthusiastic and spot on.

It made me laugh...there are parts that are more sad than others but nothing evoked tears.

Any additional comments?

it gets slow at a point, don't give up on it!

Great read

I loved this book and will probably get a few more of Peter Clines books after this. This was one I just decided on because I had too many credits and the reviews were great so I thought I'd try it. Couldn't stop listening and it just got better as the story went on.
Great read - give it a go - you won't be disappointed. Also the narrator was terrific too. He deserves a mention because he did such a fantastic job. I'll probably have another listen at some point in the future
