Audie Award Nominee, Science Fiction, 2013

Padlocked doors. Strange light fixtures. Mutant cockroaches.

There are some odd things about Nate’s new apartment. Of course, he has other things on his mind. He hates his job. He has no money in the bank. No girlfriend. No plans for the future. So while his new home isn’t perfect, it’s livable. The rent is low, the property managers are friendly, and the odd little mysteries don’t nag at him too much. At least, not until he meets Mandy, his neighbor across the hall, and notices something unusual about her apartment. And Xela’s apartment. And Tim’s. And Veek’s. Because every room in this old Los Angeles brownstone has a mystery or two. Mysteries that stretch back over a hundred years. Some of them are in plain sight. Some are behind locked doors. And all together these mysteries could mean the end of Nate and his friends. Or the end of everything....

Editorial Review

If you love a good mystery and are even remotely interested in sci-fi or horror, 14 is the perfect escapist treat, and listener-favorite narrator Ray Porter is at the top of his game in this performance. Plus if you loved LOST like I did, this book will help with those withdrawals you're likely still experiencing (just me?)Sam P., Audible Editor

Trippy but very good

You will never predict where this book is going to go but it's a fun ride to get there. Well written and well worth the listen.

Slow start with a good ending.

This is the first Peter Clines audio boook I've listened to, and overall, it was a pretty satisfying experience. The story starts out slow, but gains a lot of momentum from the half way point and beyond. Mr. Clines fleshes out his characters well, and each has their own seperate and distinct personality. As a horror story, this one is a cut above many others that I have read. The narration by Ray Porter is mostly one dimensional, but he gets the job done.

Know what you're getting . . . .

Where does 14 rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Somewhere in the middle.

Which character – as performed by Ray Porter – was your favorite?

The narrator had a real challenge giving a distinctive voice to each of the characters. He did a good job with this.

Any additional comments?

Cartoon characters. Pedestrian writing. Good story.

Excellent Read

Don't miss this one, great story, character development and narration. A little sci-fi mixed with murder mystery and fantasy. Kind of like a mixture of The Outer Limits and Scoopy Doo, most of the characters were actually given Scoopie Doo character nick names. The characters were very realistic and interesting.

I love this book!

This is the first book I read by Clines and I was not disappointed. His biggest strength is the way he can mix fantasy and reality in a believable way.

The characters are excellent, likable, and believable. They are just "everyday" people put in a unique situation.

The story is great and keeps the pages turning. I listening to this pretty much non stop from start to finish as it was so riveting.

The narrator is also excellent. One of the best I have listened to and I listen to a lot of books.

After this listen, I would suggest "The Fold". It is not quite a sequel, but has certain parallels that make this book even better.

Thanks for reading and enjoy the book!

Fantastic, funny and creepy. A+

Definitely one of the best books I've hit up in the last couple years. You won't be disappointed. So many great movie/tv references make it creepy and hilarious at the same time. Narrator is solid gold. Especially his Roger.

Pretty good listen!

I purchased this audiobook solely on the reviews and glad I did! It was a little more science-fiction than I normally go but still entertaining and well narrated! Definitely worth a listen.

Fast and fun

I don't normally read horror or suspense novels, but this had great reviews on audible so I gave it a chance. And oh wow, that was fun. It's pretty short - 14 hours - and I stretched out the last nailbiting hour because I wasn't sure how it would end and I also didn't want it to end. It'd be a very fast print read, and I really do recommend the audio - the narrator is solid and the short chapters make for lots of suspenseful moments.
