Audie Award Nominee, Science Fiction, 2013

Padlocked doors. Strange light fixtures. Mutant cockroaches.

There are some odd things about Nate’s new apartment. Of course, he has other things on his mind. He hates his job. He has no money in the bank. No girlfriend. No plans for the future. So while his new home isn’t perfect, it’s livable. The rent is low, the property managers are friendly, and the odd little mysteries don’t nag at him too much. At least, not until he meets Mandy, his neighbor across the hall, and notices something unusual about her apartment. And Xela’s apartment. And Tim’s. And Veek’s. Because every room in this old Los Angeles brownstone has a mystery or two. Mysteries that stretch back over a hundred years. Some of them are in plain sight. Some are behind locked doors. And all together these mysteries could mean the end of Nate and his friends. Or the end of everything....

Editorial Review

If you love a good mystery and are even remotely interested in sci-fi or horror, 14 is the perfect escapist treat, and listener-favorite narrator Ray Porter is at the top of his game in this performance. Plus if you loved LOST like I did, this book will help with those withdrawals you're likely still experiencing (just me?)Sam P., Audible Editor

I just want it to keep going!

This is a fantastic listen! Ray Porter does a fantastic job, as always. I really enjoy the Mythos genre and hearing new stories about them is always fun. I sure hope we get to see Nate and team again.

Not What I Expected - But I was HOOKED!

I read a few of the reviews on this book and was not quite sure I wanted when the words "Science Fiction" were used. But, I had a credit, and it was so popular that I got it.
It's not the sort of book I would normally listen to - but by the time I figured that out I was too hooked to turn it off.
The story line sucks you in right away and as the characters develop you can't help but like them. It's a crazy ride that ends up where you least expect and worth every minute of the listen.
I should also point out that the Narrator really made the book. I doubt I would have enjoyed it so much or stuck with it if it had been read by somebody else. He was FANTASTIC.
The author's other books don't look like my cup of tea, but I will be looking for other with Ray Porter narrating for sure!

Great Book - Can't Wait to See the Movie!

I've already recommended this book to all my friends. I'm so sure that this will be made into a movie that I searched the net for info on the movie but it's too soon, I suppose.

The characters were great but the true star of the book is the building itself. In the end I was cringing about the damage to the building as much as the harm to the characters. The ending was predictable (at least by me) but it was the right ending so kudos to Peter Clines for not trying to throw a twist in at the end.

I would enjoy a sequel about the new super's challenges as he tries to keep new tenants from doing the same thing he and his friends managed to do.

Ray Porter did a great job as narrator, using enough vocal talents that I could tell who was speaking without being told.

A Complete Surprise.

What did you love best about 14?

I thought this was going to be a horror book. It ended up being the Scooby Gang in a sci-fi end of the world book with other dimensions! I know, right? Loved the characters and loved the twists.

Who was your favorite character and why?

My faves were Zeela and Tim because they were the most interesting and always had the best lines. Although I love Nate and Roger, too.

Which character – as performed by Ray Porter – was your favorite?

Tim was the best listening. He was awesome. He was interesting.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

YES YES YES!

Any additional comments?

It's a good listen. Give it a go.

Really really really good!

What made the experience of listening to 14 the most enjoyable?

Good story line and I liked the narrator.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Nate - he is easy to relate to.

What does Ray Porter bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I wondered at first if I would like Ray, but after a short time, I found him to be really good and he gave each character their own identify.

Any additional comments?

It was difficult to stop listening and when it ended, I wanted more.

Entertaining read!

Would you listen to 14 again? Why?

Maybe... but I have alot of things to get through.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I don't think I can choose! I love just about all the characters, but Veek and Nate are probably best with Zeela taking a close second. I love all Zeela's pop culture references. She fits my personality (just not the exhibitionism).

What about Ray Porter’s performance did you like?

He did a great job with the voices. it is so hard for a man to portray the female voices but he did it. And he had enough emotion and inflection in the right places.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Without giving to much away... someone dies and you can feel the shock of the characters.

Any additional comments?

This was a really entertaining read that I purchased on a whim. The mystery isn't anything you might think.

Fun and Interesting

Very engaging story even before the turn, then a surprise you're willing to just go with till the end.

Simply brilliant

As a hard-core sci-fi reader, I wasn't sure what to expect from this book. But thousands of great reviews can't be wrong. And they weren't.

If you can imagine a story about ancient secrets, conspiracies, history, heros, evildoers, and saving the world, then this book is for you. And a pleasing blend of sci-fi in there as well.

I never put iPod downs!

This book is THE best thing I've read in a while. I wrecked my plan to make it last a month. Try 4 days every possible minute. 14 was like a drug I HAD to have more of. The cast was perfect. Porter's a genius with the voices. I tell you, the beginning was so good I feared that the end could not possibly live up to the ride. Never been so happy to be wrong in my life. A few too many F-bombs for my personal taste, but a minor observation. Read this book!!

Exceeding my expectation!

Any additional comments?

The plot line is great. Not full of surprises but everything make senses and nothing's cliche. The story and characters are well thought and well developed.

It is also well narrated which make the whole book very engaging! Personally not a big fan of sci-fi but I just can't stop listening!
