Audie Award Nominee, Science Fiction, 2013

Padlocked doors. Strange light fixtures. Mutant cockroaches.

There are some odd things about Nate’s new apartment. Of course, he has other things on his mind. He hates his job. He has no money in the bank. No girlfriend. No plans for the future. So while his new home isn’t perfect, it’s livable. The rent is low, the property managers are friendly, and the odd little mysteries don’t nag at him too much. At least, not until he meets Mandy, his neighbor across the hall, and notices something unusual about her apartment. And Xela’s apartment. And Tim’s. And Veek’s. Because every room in this old Los Angeles brownstone has a mystery or two. Mysteries that stretch back over a hundred years. Some of them are in plain sight. Some are behind locked doors. And all together these mysteries could mean the end of Nate and his friends. Or the end of everything....

Editorial Review

If you love a good mystery and are even remotely interested in sci-fi or horror, 14 is the perfect escapist treat, and listener-favorite narrator Ray Porter is at the top of his game in this performance. Great book! Loved the narration

I really enjoyed this book! I was intrigued pretty early on in the book and it just continued to get better. I thought the storyline was interesting and kept me on my toes. The narrator was also amazing. This was one of the best narrated audiobooks I've listened too, he had distinct voices for each character and stayed in them expertly. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone that likes thriller/mystery books.

wow, so much fun, couldn't stop listening

I love books with so much mystery and reveal it in such a satisfying way. The characters were fun to get to know and the imagery was strong. I recommend this book to anyone who loves sci-fi or mystery. I wish there was a second book so I could live in their world and continue exploring the Kavatch building.

Original and superb

I seldom listen to an audiobook twice, but this one kept coming back to me over the months. I enjoyed it as much, if not more the second time. I love the characters and the plot is wonderfully original. The narrator is also a big plus! Great story!

Great adventure

What made the experience of listening to 14 the most enjoyable?

The narration was great. Each character was believable.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Veek. She was honest about who she was, no pretense.

What about Ray Porter’s performance did you like?

He is able to shift from one character to another seamlessly

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

yes!

Any additional comments?

I felt that the author dropped the ball on the character development of the various people at the end. I got to know them so well, that I felt left hanging as to what happened to them.

Great story exceptionally narrated.

I enjoyed this audiobook immensely! Not only did the writer create a wonderfully diverse and well developed group of characters, but the narrating was flawless in portraying each and every distinct voice. I was captivated by the well told story, and loved and loathed the residents of their apartment building.

Peter Clines made me love a book that's not in my typical set of genres and I heartily give Ray Porter a standing ovation for his spot on portrayals of this rich cast of delightful characters. Thanks to you both for the fun listen.

Okay, I'm not a big SciFi person, but.....

Thought this was going in another direction. Still it was pretty darn awesome. I knew that character was not really who he pretended to be. Who? Well you'll have to read to find out.

It is a bit freaky to find all these crazy things going on in a place you live. Thinking it was going to be one ending I was scared at night. Then when it became apparent it was a different ending I was disturbed, but no longer scared.

A good book. Didn't want to stop listening!

Believable story line with a to be expected ending but that was the only criticism.

Enjoyed it

Very entertaining story! Ended kind of abruptly but that's okay. Will look for more by this author.

Great Story and Narration

I enjoyed this story although It became a little far fetched in places. The reader is introduced to some quirky characters whose interaction is interesting, lively, and entertaining. The story is fast paced and holds your attention as the characters continually discover new mysteries about the building they inhabit. At times it did stretch the imagination a little far. The narration was excellent being particularly good at keeping up with all the characters in their somtimes fast paced dialog. In all, a great story.

Fun ride!!!

This story was a fun ride! I really enjoyed the characters and the plot. The story is very science fiction. There is not much to say without ruining the plot. Enjoy. :D
