Audie Award Nominee, Science Fiction, 2013

Padlocked doors. Strange light fixtures. Mutant cockroaches.

There are some odd things about Nate’s new apartment. Of course, he has other things on his mind. He hates his job. He has no money in the bank. No girlfriend. No plans for the future. So while his new home isn’t perfect, it’s livable. The rent is low, the property managers are friendly, and the odd little mysteries don’t nag at him too much. At least, not until he meets Mandy, his neighbor across the hall, and notices something unusual about her apartment. And Xela’s apartment. And Tim’s. And Veek’s. Because every room in this old Los Angeles brownstone has a mystery or two. Mysteries that stretch back over a hundred years. Some of them are in plain sight. Some are behind locked doors. And all together these mysteries could mean the end of Nate and his friends. Or the end of everything....

Editorial Review

If you love a good mystery and are even remotely interested in sci-fi or horror, 14 is the perfect escapist treat, and listener-favorite narrator Ray Porter is at the top of his game in this performance. Plus if you loved LOST like I did, this book will help with those withdrawals you're likely still experiencing (just me?)Sam P., Audible Editor

Great story and really engaging voice acting.

If you could sum up 14 in three words, what would they be?

Engaging, surprising, and riveting.

What was one of the most memorable moments of 14?

I'd ruin the surprise if I told you. :)

Have you listened to any of Ray Porter’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No...really liked the performance though.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I felt like I knew the characters so I was engaged in the story...even with the unraveling mystery.

Worth the "Read"

Haven't listened to others.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Genre bending

This book doesn't fit any molds. Once you finish it you realize It blends a couple different common story lines. It works well though. Saying much more could mean giving away spoilers. The narrator does a great job of giving individual voices. Twice I've listened and I'm sure I will again.

HIBK

Had I but known this was a Lovecraft update I would have passed. I am not one who appreciates that universe. Superb narration.

Engaging, surprising, and jumped off the deep end.

First off - I thoroughly enjoyed this book. A majority of this book felt almost as if it would fit into the detective thriller genre, until it really jumped off the deep end. When the story took a major turn, I didn't see it coming - but it was still entertaining and engaging enough to keep me hooked until the end. Did I know what I was getting myself into with this book? No. Did I completely like it? Yes. I highly recommend it - but be prepare yourself for a wild ride.

Very Interesting and fun.

Good for science fiction buffs. Is our existence on earth as fragile as this book says? Probably not, but if it is, this book points it out.

Ray Porter does a great job performing it.
