An 11-year-old boy's violated corpse is found in a town park. Eyewitnesses and fingerprints point unmistakably to one of Flint City's most popular citizens. He is Terry Maitland, Little League coach, English teacher, husband, and father of two girls. Detective Ralph Anderson, whose son Maitland once coached, orders a quick and very public arrest. Maitland has an alibi, but Anderson and the district attorney soon add DNA evidence to go with the fingerprints and witnesses. Their case seems ironclad.

Absolutely breathtaking
Stephen King is a genius. I’ve been reading his books in the Dark Tower order, and via a connections map I found on Google. This book is in the Derry trail on that map, after “It”, “Insomnia” & “Dreamcatcher”. I highly suggest reading them in that order. This book was absolutely incredible! King never disappoints. You can tell he did his research to make his fictional aspects almost seem real, yet gave us snippets of his “King-iverse” throughout that would make me smile. I love how he weaves this story to fit into his own world while still making it seem believable by the inclusion of facts and real places. I will definitely read this book again. Simply breathtaking.

What a performance! What a story!
I’ve had this fat book on my shelf for a looong time, wanting to read it, knowing I hardly ever have time to sit down with a physical book anymore. So I bought it on Audible. I AM SO GLAD I DID! Not only did I thoroughly enjoy this story, but the reader’s performance made it so much better than it would’ve been for me to just read it alone. Thank you, Craig Wasson.

Interesting character study of Lee Harvey Oswald
Pure historical accuracy (obviously) wasn't the point here, but King does an admirable job of checking the boxes on the historical research and details that bring this story to life. Like the best historical fiction, it makes you curious about the real-life subject...not that people need much encouragement with JFK's life and legacy. The tiebacks to "IT" are a nice, unexpected touch.

Favorite King book so far
* mild spoiler alert* I didn’t think anything would surpass the shining, but MY GODDDDD this book was absolutely incredible. I’m really sad the ending didn’t go how I had hoped for our main characters, but man… what an incredible story written on the basis of real history. I loved the entire theme of time travel and all of the historical references. Learning about the prices of items in the 50’s/60’s made me sad lol. I wish I could erase this from my mind and read it again. 10/10
