Publisher's summary

Every battle leaves its mark...

Ex-Special Forces soldier Alex Abbott escaped the Middle East under a cloud and now lives hand-to-mouth in Singapore. Scraping a living as a gun for hire and estranged from his family, Abbott is haunted by ghosts of the past, drinking to dull the pain. Life's tough, but there is one upside - at least he's not in Baghdad.

That's about to change.

When a job goes badly wrong, Abbott's in hot water. Next he learns that his military son, Nathan, is missing in Iraq. Knowing something is wrong, needing to find his son and desperate for redemption, Abbott has no choice but to go back.

Returning to Baghdad, Abbott renews old acquaintances and begins his search for Nathan. The body count rises as old wounds open and he struggles to confront his demons, self-medicating the only way he knows how. But when one of his old crew turns up dead in mysterious circumstances and the link with Nathan is clear, Abbott begins to suspect a trap.

But who is the hunter? And who is the hunted?

Ok

Good enough although I would prefer a bit more action sequences. I would recommend.

A Bit of Downer

There are no heroes here. There are some surprising twists. Well written but rather depressing story.

Written from a different angle

I was hoping for allot more action and suspense than this book provided. It was well written from more of the psychological side of things. But lacked urgency and suspense in my opinion. There was also a lack of authenticity from the perspective of technical speak, and tactical analysis/explanation. After hearing the author’s interview at the end of the book. It became evident that he was an experienced special forces soldier who was intentionally writing from personal experience. And that he was shedding more light on the PTSD side of things. Which was a unique perspective for this type of book. That being said he also suggested the next book would be action packed. Hopefully this book is the precursor to a more intricate series of books that can bring all these elements together

A Little Bit Clichéd

I found the story to be a little bit clichéd and quite predictable. That being said, the depth of the main charecter was reasonably well written and his PTSD symptoms well described without over doing it.

Colin Mace brought the charecters and story to lure with a very good performance.

I will beistening to the sequel.

too much AA.

I listen to be entertained. my heart goes out to you Ollie for having had an addiction but I don't listen to action books for that reason. I could do with far less agonizing over drinking.

Good times

The story grips and holds your attention and let’s get a mental picture of the events. It takes one back to another time and place.

Great story, great narration!

The story in this book is very involved and enjoyable. It takes plenty of time to open up and get you started and into the characters, then it takes a couple of fun twists and turns that surprise you as things go along. My only gripe is that there are a few spots where the dialogue does get a little thick, not because it’s bad, not because the author doesn’t know what he’s talking about (he absolutely does), but simply because there is just too much talking in situations that would not afford a lot of chances for conversation. All in all, it is absolutely a five star book. From top to bottom, the narration is wonderful, the story is engaging and fun, and it’s written by a guy that actually knows the sharp end. Thank you for your service, and thank you for your story.
