Publisher's summary

A magical girl fantasy about a trans teen who is given the ability to travel into the world of dreams and tasked with fighting nightmares.

Six months after Aoife O’Connell leaves for Ireland to find her ancestors, another girl from Fayetteville is about to start a magical adventure of her own. Roxie Rivers is a trans girl who just wants to survive her senior year of high school and play in her garage band with Jenna and Tessa.

But all of that takes a backseat when a pixie named Selene stumbles into her life and gives Roxie magical abilities. Selene explains that pixies exist to protect human dreams and fight off nightmares. She then tasks Roxie with using her new magic to do just that.

The new pixie dream girl won’t have to do it alone. During her dreamwalking, Roxie befriends a grumpy old shop wizard named Dan who was trapped in his store by a witch decades ago. He passes the days with his talking fox, Eely, uniting customers who have magical problems with enchanted items to help them.

As if the pair didn’t have enough challenges, they soon discover an ancient evil called the Queen of Tears is imprisoned below Fayetteville. And she’s slowly breaking free. If her magic gets loose, she’ll swallow the entire city in a living nightmare, leaving dreamers stuck there forever.

Roxie and Dan will have to team up, face their worst nightmares, and complete the most important mission of their lives.

Roxie Rivers and the Moonlight Mission is a magical story about a trans girl who discovers the power of dreams and the importance of stopping nightmares. It’s full of talking animals, magical hijinks, powerful friendships, and laughs.

A worthy addition to the Dream Pack Promises world!

While there is only one direct reference to the first book, this story adds nicely to the world created by the first one. You learn more about some of the minor characters in the first book, and get to know a brand new one. The overall story itself is well crafted but Roxie's story is not one for the faint of heart, as it deals with some fairly heavy issues, but is one that I fell in love with.

The performance was just as good as the first book, though there were a couple of times that the recordings were noticeably different. With changes in volume and quality in spots, it's not enough to ruin the overall story, but it is something to be prepared for.
