Pretty good

Interesting story, will continue with the series. The narrator had good inflection and different character intonations but I couldn’t get over the voice (50y/o smoker for life-type voice does nothing for me during sexy scenes) and the audible swallowing. Hoping for a different narrator next time

Enjoyable Listen

The Green Dragon series were the first books I had read by Katie MacAlister and I enjoyed them. The story line kept me interested and I loved Jim and his comedy. I was just ok with the narrator. To me she sounded older than what I pictured Aisling Grey (all other voices were fine and I loved her voice for Jim) but that could be a personal preference thing. I have put her Silver Dragons series on my wish list and will probably try them out soon.

I WAS SLAYED!

If you could sum up You Slay Me in three words, what would they be?

guardians, dragons, demons = sexy & funny

Who was your favorite character and why?

Jim the demon. A demon in the form of a Newfoundland just can't help to be funny.

Have you listened to any of Barbara Rosenblat’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes. I have found her performances to be of high quality . This book is as well read as all the others.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Guardians, demons and dragons - Oh my!

Any additional comments?

I chose this series by searching through the narrator's list of books. Knowing that Barbara Rosenblat always provides a good read; I bought You Slay Me. Once again, Barbara Rosenblat didn't disappoint me and I am now reading the second in the series of Aisling Grey, Guardian.

Katie McCalister is now on my list of great writers!

Love it, funny but the mic...

Love Katie and Barbara but the mic picks up every sound, too many to ignore. This series is fun so I keep listening

The Three Stooges.

This was a funny book, but you have to keep in mind that the heroine is an idiot and just go with the flow. The side characters Jim and Renee were great and made for some comical relief. The story is a comical paranormal romance with a lot of blundering going on, kinda a reminiscence of Stephanie Plum trying to get fugitives. I wasn't a huge fan of Drake's personality though. I have listened to Barbara Rosenblat readings before and have liked her in the past, I believe this was her poorest reading. My complaint isn't her voice but all of the swallowing and smacking and as good as the book was, this was distracting. The problem is the fault of the editor not noticing when the book was being recorded. I don't believe she has ever been that bad before because I have always liked her readings well enough in the past. I get immersed in a story and after a while the narrator either got better or I stopped noticing. I think this book was worth a credit or at least a try with a sale.

Good story; bad narrator

What did you like best about You Slay Me? What did you like least?

I enjoyed the actual story line, but HATED the narrator. She had a habit of swallowing audibly after each sentence or so. It was very distracting adn annoying. If I continue with the series, it will be read it. I can't torture myself by listening to another one.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Jim the demon / dog was my favorite character becuase he was the comic relief.

What didn’t you like about Barbara Rosenblat’s performance?

Not much.
