Publisher's Summary

As a member of the Bourbon Street Boys private security firm, Antoinette "Toni" Delacourte is one strong woman, but despite her reputation for being tough as nails, she is haunted by her past mistakes. Now they're catching up to her, and throwing her for a loop.

Ten years ago, Toni kissed Lucky, her brother's best friend. Worried it would break apart the group she'd come to see as family, she walked away - straight into the arms of Charlie, and an abusive relationship.

For the past decade she's tried to keep her feelings for Lucky platonic - he's her friend, her colleague, and he's got his own past to deal with. Free of Charlie but unable to shake his memory, Toni finds herself feeling vulnerable and unable to deny her attraction to Lucky any longer.

She's always thought that kiss was her first mistake, but now she's wondering whether the real mistake was running away.

"Not the best in the series, HORRIBLE narration"
What didn’t you like about Sophie Amoss’s performance?

Awful. The main character's "voice" is so bad, I cringed through the first 5 minutes. I then desperately searched for a way to return it...no dice, not returnable. Read the book, do not listen to this train wreck of a narration.

    "No good"

The voice was terrible. The story was predictable and I could barely finish it. I kept hoping it would get better, but no.

    "Too much accent"

Story fine, but told mainly from main character's point of view. Problem is that the narrator for this version tried to give the main character a speech impediment of some kind. I assume she was trying to do a New Orleans accent but none of the other characters had it and I don't recall being so annoyed by anyone's accent when I was in New Orleans. This really distracted me from the story.

    "So disappointed with the narrator!!!!!"

I am an audiobook junkie (1000+++in my libraries) and this is the first one in years I stopped listening to in the first 30 minutes, and I was trying to be optimistic by listening 30 minutes in hopes it would get better. The narrator was TERRIBLE!! I know she was trying to do a New Orleans accent but it was so awful it was a distraction. Pass on the listen and pick up the book to read the story. So disappointed because the previous books were great.

"Very Different From First Two Books In Series"

I had a little difficulty getting past the accernt and into the story, but it is worth sticking with in order to share Toni's transformation!! I really wanted the book to go further into Lucky and Tioni's family and work life. I hope Elle Casey will finish the team's story!!!!

    "DNF. HORRIBLE NARRATION!!!"

I'm sorry, but I couldn't make myself finish this one. I just couldn't get past the grating voice of the narrator, with the overdone fake accent. It was actually giving me a headache. The story wasn't good enough for me to put up with the voice. The main character (girl) was way to annoying, self centered, and whiny to be likable. I loved the first book in the series, the second was ok, but the third isn't even close to good.

Elle, has done it again with the Bourbon Street Boys series. I can hardly wait for the next book. I hope the next storyline is about Toni's brother T! It's time for him to find his love interest. Jump on the baby band wagon....so excited!

I really felt for Tony, I think the author hated her. None of her friends seem very sympathetic. None cares why she feels how she does. All the lectures she gets are exhausting. Made me hate May,such a Princess, ugh!

"I have complicated feelings about this book"

Ok, I liked Elle Casey's two previous books, so I went into this book with a positive attitude. Boy, did I need that attitude. Toni is self-absorbed, pity-party throwing, drowing in misplaced guilt, and has a really bad attitude about everything in the beginning. She is very hard to like. She's also not that bright. I'd say Elle wrote her character with average intelligence, and below average emotional intelligence and maturity. Toni is so infuriatingly impulsive, and she does some really stupid things! However, however, her character goes through this transition in the book, and by the end, she comes out just a little older and wiser. I'd like to have had more dialogue with Lucky in the book to really develop his character, and I think Tebo was written put of the story too much. This is not a book I regret listening to, and I appreciate what it took for Elle to so accurately write Toni's internal dialogue, but I hope the next book has more likable characters in it.

"Best in the series so far!"

I did a lot of random snorts of laughter throughout this book. Lucky is probably the most developed out of all the male leads so far and we actually interact with Ozzie enough to learn more about his personality too. But all of that is second to Toni, who is totally the star of this show. Her internal dialogue tops May's and Jenny's tenfold. Her journey from anger and self-blame to forgiveness is well crafted and the partnership that emerges between her and Lucky is as funny as it is sad at times. Considering some of the heavy themes involved, this book manages to keep the laughs rolling and the gang moving. If Ms Casey's trend continues, the next book in this series should be even better than this one. Can't wait!
