Abby Davis isn't wearing a skimpy bikini or sipping umbrella drinks, not when she's busy chasing around four little ones. And Matt McKinney isn't looking for fun - he's a Navy SEAL, a grown man with a long list of missions and fallen brothers. Abby has brought her children to this beach to start over, to give them the enjoyable memories they deserve. Matt has been sidelined by a combat injury, and he is haunted by the loss of his best friend and the promise he made: to remain a SEAL - focused and dedicated. This leaves no time for what he's always wanted: a family. Matt opens her heart while Abby soothes his soul. And though they plan to say good-bye when the week is over, something magical happens on that beach, something neither can forget. Something utterly, completely worth falling for.

"This debut mixes passion and compassion in a contemporary story that has emotional depth. Readers will find the story heartwarming but with enough heat to remind them of what falling in love feels like." (Library Journal)

I got this book during a recent sale so I wasn't expecting a whole lot from it. I was proven wrong! I would have definitely used a credit for this one.
I don't need to tell you the plot of this story (that's what the publisher's summary is for) but I will say that this book has all the elements of a great romance. Engaging story, check! Strong, yet vulnerable characters, check! Emotional, check! Heartwarming, check! Hunky, Sensitive, Smart, Navy Seal (lol), check! It's the kind of story that you don't want to end. 💖
The narration was outstanding. She totally nailed all the voices...especially the children. She really brought this book to life.
Note: This book does have some strong language and sex scenes.
I highly recommend this to anyone who loves a good heartwarming romance.
I love this book it was definitely worth the read Joanna Parker did a fantastic job in the narration this book made me laugh and cry and I can't wait for the next in the series
One of the best books I've read. Thoroughly enjoyed the story and the reader was the best.
Can't wait for next by author and reader.
Thank you for such a wonderful read.
I appreciated that this book had a depth of story and not just scene after scene of mindless sex. While still hot, the author managed to make this story meaningful and touching in a way that is missing from most of the "Fifty Shades of Trendy" books.
This story was so sweet and well done, the narrator is fantastic, but it was SO EMOTIONAL! If you are in the mood for fluff and uncomplicated sex, this is not the book for you. This is a book you can sink your teeth into with complex characters who will pull your heart-strings in many directions.
On the surface, the story is about a young woman who is pregnant, recently widowed, and the mother of four children. She meets a man, a smokin' hot Navy Seal, while on vacation and the story begins... [Yes, you read correctly. This woman is 6 months pregnant with four post-utero children between the ages of 2 and 6. She's on a "vacation" with four kids with no other adults present. Oh, and she's pregnant with her very recently deceased husband's child.]
Now that I recap it so plainly, I'm surprised that I bought into the story at all. It is far from any reality I know to exist, but it didn't cross into "painfully unbelievable" territory for me. The lead characters are painstakingly and delicately unwrapped throughout the story and kept me interested, frustrated, elated, and intrigued. The kids are surprisingly well-developed characters who add a touch of levity to the story but broke my heart into tiny pieces over and over. No spoilers below, just themes:
Below the surface, the story is about family (and all the imperfections that come along with it), grief, loss, abandonment, suicide, feeling unlovable and unworthy of love, loneliness, the fear of needing people and of being alone, attachment trauma, and the incredibly difficult experience of having loved ones in the military. It is also a deeply endearing story that repeatedly reminded me that love is a beautiful, messy, gut-wrenching, amazing necessity that heals us and is available no matter the circumstances if we are brave enough to reach for it.
What a great surprise from a new author. Loved the kids and the love story. Especially loved Matt even though he was way too perfect.
