Hank Malone, small-town-Vermont "bad boy," hires New Jersey would-be author Maggie Toone to pretend to be his wife to improve his image so that he can get a business bank loan for his apple orchard. Of course, the inevitable happens, and Hank and Maggie fall in love. C.J. Critt plunges into the frothy romance with gusto, keeping the tempo fast and the interplay between the main characters sexy, rapid-fire, and funny. A plus is Critt's portrayal of a feisty, gun-toting housekeeper, who keeps the action on its toes. Fans of Evanovich's Stephanie Plum series should not expect a mystery here. But for light listening pleasure, this fits the bill.
Maggie never expected her employer to be drop-dead handsome, but she's too intrigued by his offer to say no...and too eager to escape a life that made her feel trapped. The deal is strictly business, both agree, until Hank turns out to be every fantasy she ever had.

This audiobook may have been less torture if the narrator would have read to an adult audience. It was so so slow. She may do better reading to young elementary school children. Her characterization was annoying... I do not recommend this audiobook.
I have listened to her book previous to buying it, I love how she writes. I fell in love with the Plum series and decided to give her other books a try.
Really enjoyed the characters personality. All were perfect!
Haven't but excellent job C.J.
I would if I had time, the pace is perfect.
For quite a while I couldn't figure out how this would play out, but it was soo funny. I laughed and laughed. Really brought my spirits up, Such a good book,
Makes you Laugh.
The humor and the plot are what I liked best about this story. This book helped me to forget about my to do list and my problems.
I love C.J.'s narration style. She has great tone, inflection and humor. she brings life to many stories.
When I read Janet's Stephanie Plum series I became a fan of her work as well as Cj's narration. CJ really brings books to life. She and Janet have wonderful gifts. I will always be a fan of their work.
Hello, my name is Teresa and I'm an addict.
I enjoy Janet Evanovich stories Immensely but she does have one hang up with her older romances. They always start out funny and then the main characters acts like dunderheads at the end of the story, then quickly gets fine and boom, happily ever after.
thank God this was quick and painless. This must have been one of her earlier works as it read like it was written by a high schooler.
I really like all the other books by Janet Evanovich that were re-released. This one wasn't my favorite - the characters weren't as strong as some.... would highly recommend Smitten!
