Publisher's summary

Leader of the most powerful army in the heavens, Zacharel has been deemed nearly too dangerous, too ruthless - and if he isn't careful, he'll lose his wings. But this warrior with a heart of ice will not be deterred from his missions at any cost…until a vulnerable human tempts him with a carnal pleasure he's never known before.

Accused of a crime she did not commit, Annabelle Miller has spent four years in an institution for the criminally insane. Demons track her every move, and their king will stop at nothing to have her. Zacharel is her only hope for survival, but is the brutal angel with a touch as hot as hell her salvation - or her ultimate damnation?

For The Die Hards

If you have listened to Lords of the Underworld you'll want to listen to this. You have met some of the characters before and it's good to have a new storyline that isn't too foreign.

I do love Max...hubba hubba

Zacharel and Annabelle their story

Zach a dark angel close to losing his wings, he's heart is ice and he kills demons. Annabelle witnessed her parents being killed by a demon, and the law accused her of the murders oh and yeah the demon marked her as his. Both have some real heart ache to work out and get over before they can become lovers. It was a tough dual HEA. Max's narration was good, sometime got confused with who was talking and rather it was a male or female talking, but he did alright. the story seemed to heavy to listen to just before bed, but daylight worked very well. I do recommend this title.

Thank you, thank you, Showalter!

A fantastic start to a new series I can be utterly, hopelessly, and unashamedly addicted to.

This book has all the elements that made me originally fall for the PNR genre. I love the LOTU series and to launch into this spin-off series set in the same world and also depicting some of the beloved Lords and their spitfire females just makes my want to do cartwheels!

We were introduced to Zacharel and his unflinching, no-nonsense, is-he-even-capable-of-feeling demeanor in the LOTU series. He intrigued me with his mysteriousness and even more so when he showed a flicker of emotion in "The Darkest Secret" when he gives Haidee a piece of Love to help save her.

Wicked Nights starts off with Annabelle locked in a psych institution after being found guilty of murdering her parents and claiming that demons did it. During the four years of her incarceration she battled demon after demon and the evil actions of her caregivers. The constant demon invasion of the psych institution finally catches the attention of Zacharel and his warriors. Zacharel is charged with leading an army of misfits many of which, like himself, are on the verge of falling because of their disregard to rules. As punishment for his past deeds, Zacharel must now hold the actions of his warriors as his own and suffer the consequences.

At first glance, Zacharel is drawn to Annabelle. Because he has suppressed his emotions for a long, long time he is unsure how to reconcile what he's feeling while in her presence. Annabelle has been physically and emotionally hurt by those she should have felt safe with and even loved. So at the moment she met emotionless and cold Zacharel, she is cautious. However, she chooses to go with him deciding he was the lesser of two evils. From that moment on the story progresses, taking twists and turns, shaking you off your feet and making you burst out in laughter at the hilarious retorts of Annabelle and the arrogant, but adorably funny remarks from Zacharel. These two have become one of my favorite couples. I could read anything Showalter puts out about this couple. They could be buttering toast or folding laundry and I'd read it. They compliment each other in so many ways, giving and taking in just the right amount to have balance and true love.

The romance is not the only great thing about this book. The main plot is filled with riveting action scenes and an ending that I didn't predict. The new characters left much to the imagination, making me itch for more on their background story and their future HEA. I can't wait for the next installment! Showalter needs to write faster!

Narrator: Max Bellmore
Performance: 5/5
I like it when series are consistent with the narrator and although this is a different series, it is set in the same world as the LOTU series and I was glad that they kept Bellmore as the narrator. He does a great job with the characters both male and female. He is easy to listen to and is actually one of the few male narrators that I enjoy listening to as well as can understand them while listening in my car.
Note: I listened to this book on 1.5x speed

Better than I thought

it was better then I thought it would be. the female lead came across a little immature and spoiled. The male lead came across a bit too broody. still was an alright story and pretty good narrarater.

TICKED ALL MY BOXES !!!

Great start to a new GS series that gives you those tormented brooding angels that we see in LOTU coupled with some of the juicy Lords themselves for a little while. This is Zacharel and Annabelle's tempestuous unfolding love story that has all the classic Showalter ingredients like passion, great characters, an intricate amusing and enjoyable plot coupled with the tall dark, handsome and feathered angels - mmmm you just can't go wrong.

Thought the narrator was ok but I listened on double speed because I couldn't wait, well that and there's just so many delicious books waiting to be heard and such little time.

Worth a credit? If you're a GS fan then you already know the answer - it's a big fat YES and I'm waiting for more please.

Great read! Adventure, Love, Angels, Demons

I was new to the world of Angels. Figured it was time to try something new. I was reluctant to enter the world of vampires before becoming a Sookie Stackhouse reader, so now I try to stay open to all paranormal adventures. I loved the main character Annabelle: she's strong, saucy and sarcastic. Zacharel is sexy and strong (how I like my male characters) and a bit broken. They both are for that matter. I'm a sucker for any sort of magical powers and love of good fight especially when justice is involved. I also liked the authors commentary on insane asylums and mental illness; without getting too preachy about it, you're left questioning the treatment of the mentally insane. I will definitely continue reading this series and am excited to add Angels to my list of paranormal reading.
Is it worth the credit? Definitely. It's a little violent at the beginning but once you get past that part of the story, it's a great read.

"What We Want is Not Always What We Need"

I'm having trouble placing this book into a single mental category. One minute it felt like a romance, the next like a thriller. Sometimes it even felt like a bit of a theological/philosophical apologetic. At times it seemed to have very little depth like a cheap pulp romance, then it would suddenly get really deep and well written (like I know this author is more than capable of). This was like a sampling of bipolar literature.

But as much as I seem to have just belittled this book, I've got to say I enjoyed it. Overall, the story is really good. It has plenty of great elements in it: the damaged angels, the victimized human that has suffered a horrible life through no fault of her own, the demented demons, the Deity who reasons in ways that are beyond our comprehension but always loves us. There's plenty of action, a super slow-burn elemental passion that's so raw it hurts, plenty of angst, and the love and loyalty of family, friends, and warriors at arms. I was actually pretty fascinated with the entire epic story as it unfolded, although I have to admit the angel Zacharel sure took a long time to get around to the romance part of this romance novel. But hey, when he and Annabelle finally hookup, they really make up for lost time...

If you're new to any of these series, be prepared for violence, adult situations, and some seriously steamy sex scenes. This is definitely NOT a sweet romance. It's on the scorching side.
