"A romantic comedy that adds luster to the genre, this effervescent tale will please readers who can relate to Sophie's undaunted exploration of all her desires." (Publishers Weekly)
"Funny, sexy, and wise - it's time to welcome Crusie into the pantheon of top-flight romance writers." (Kirkus Reviews)
A good romance with some fun characters. I particularly liked the banter between the main character & her man. Sadly disappointing if you bought it because it was in the erotic section. Still a good listen.
Is anyone else getting the Beijing Conspiracy as part two??? I've bought it twice and called customer service and they said they'd look into it. But I'm an audible addict and am bummed.
Stuff it in the Dumpster and forget about it!
There is no genre............A documentary is more riveting than this book was...............well as far as I got with it anyhow
Oh hell no!!!! She sounded like she was reciting the Flavors of Sundaes.......where Chocolate through Blueberry just all meld together. I truly thought she would drop dead.........I had hoped so at anyrate.........She hardly came up for air, and read so dam fast that you just could not Keep up!
Yes.........When I clicked to OFF button on my MP3 Player
The story could have been good, maybe, but with the Narration I will never know. I just can not subject myself to this torture. 5 hrs was way enough!
Yes.. It was very entertaining.
I laughed and hoped that all would work out well in the end.
Tell us about yourself!
This was a really good book. It took me a chapter or two to get into it but I was happy overall with this purchase. This was my first Jennifer Cruise book and I would read another.
The performance was just ok. The voices from the reader were great but the recording seemed very armature. You can hear pages turning, and it had an echo/microphone sound that is irritating.
Story line was weak. Felt no connection to any of the characters.
No problem with the narrator, it was the story.
The only redeeming quality was I only paid $6.95.
Don"t waste your time>
This hilarious, romantic book is a classic Jennifer Crusie story. It is fun to watch the relationship unfold between our heroine, Sophie Dempsey, the girl from the wrong side of the tracks, and the mayor, Phin Tucker, who may or may not be like all of the mean "town boys" that she has known in her life. I got drawn in with the great dialog and was really rooting for these two to make it! Fun, easy book to listen to -- great narration, great plot.
Say something about yourself!

What I Loved: Sophie/Amy/Davey! Anytime two or more of the siblings were together it was fun, heart-warming, and always a surprise. I laughed, got sad, and got my heart strings pulled at many times. I also loved the character of Rachel and her quest to get out of Temptation. She reminded me a lot of most of the small town gals I know---they want out and don't want to look back. Her journey and quest to get out of town was surprising and fun. I adored all the Princess Bride and other movie references.
What I Liked: The town of Temptation was full of interesting characters. I think they covered the gambit of personalities and made for some very funny moments. The overall story was well paced, well written, and very funny.
Complaints: I just never warmed to Phin. For a leading man he was a little to arrogant for me right up until the end. I did enjoy the Amy/Wes story and almost wish they were the main couple in this book.
Audio Review: The pacing was fantastic but the narration was a little too twangy for me. Overall though I did enjoy the reading of the book.
Why I gave it a 3.5: Overall this was an enjoyable book but since I never warmed up to Phin it just didn't fill my "love story" quotient for a chic-lit romance novel.
Who I would recommend it too: Chic-lit and Contemporary Romance readers. Please go check out the reviews on Goodreads--the book got a lot of 5's.
hmmmmmmmmmmm, funny, well written and far less insulting to my intelligence than any other romance book I have read previous to this one.
The sheriff who begins as a back ground character and develops slowly but is so likeable. Harry Conick Jr. would play him to a T and even has the right accent.
The town hall meeting at the end.
Temptation is not just the name of the town.
I have struggled to want to read romance as a friend of mine (yet unpublished) rights it and several friends read it voraciously. This book did not insult my intelligence by giving me so many details about the obvious I felt them shoved down my throat. I loved the strong independent and family oriented characters and really look forward to reading another book by Jennifer Cruisie. My friend is reading You Bet or something like that and is loving it.
I love it. Great book. Well read. Funny (I did laugh out loud!), sweet & fast paced. A great hero who is believable (no multiple organisms here thank goodness). Worth every penny!
This is one of my favourite audiobooks, and I've listened to it numerous times. It has humour and romance. I just loved Phin and Sophie.
This is similar to Susan Elizabeth Phillips.
She is a great narrator for this book. Her delivery is just right both in terms of speed and style. Too often a brilliant book has been spoiled by a narrator, but she really enhances this book.
It wasn't laugh out loud funny, but really humorous and put a BIG smile on my face.
"Why not give in to temptation?"
Easily a four or five star listen. (I didn't give it 5 because it's not great literature - but I feel a bit mean as it is great fun)
It's funny (and witty), well written, with a good range of characters and some interesting plot twists. I really enjoyed the narration and will be buying more from this author and narrator. Avoid if you really don't like sex or swearing - there are reasonable amounts of both.
This was a good, daft, laugh. Two sisters arrive in Temptation to shoot a promotional video for their brother's ex girlfriend. On arrival everything goes wrong, and hook ups and murders ensue!
