"A romantic comedy that adds luster to the genre, this effervescent tale will please readers who can relate to Sophie's undaunted exploration of all her desires." (Publishers Weekly)
"Funny, sexy, and wise - it's time to welcome Crusie into the pantheon of top-flight romance writers." (Kirkus Reviews)
I love Jennifer Crusie, she is my 'I am to stressed in my life' go to author. I also like the woman who performs, the voices are good.
I use the audio books while I am crafting and cleaning it makes the time fly. Her performance was so good I was able to let go and enjoy not grit my teeth thinking men don't sound like that. She also has good timing and I laughed a couple of times even though I have read the book repeatedly.
If you like Janet Evonovich(sp) you should check out Jennifer Crusie.
I love the characters and witty dialogue in Jennifer Cruise's books. This book keeps you entertained and laughing while also being very sweet. I did like Bet Me better though.
I absolutely love Jennifer Crusie books and this is another winner. Funny, romantic and little bit of action and drama make this one a winner.
Better things to do but this is more fun.
Welcome to Temptation is a great read that doesn't carry any of the angst of newer novels (no tortured heroes or heroines), with believable characters, great dialogue and storytelling. First published in 2000, there's a little bit of a dated feel (e.g., no one has a cell phone except for the mayor, who has a "car phone") but it's aging well. And, yes, it makes me feel weird to refer to a book published in 2000 as 'old'....
Phin and Sophie are our H/h. He's the mayor of Temptation, she's a newcomer from the wrong side of the tracks. Secondary characters abound and the plot is rich with details. There's plenty of sizzle, a decent amount of bacon and a whole lotta fun. Ms Crusie's lovely writing style handles all of the details without distracting from the story. As with other Crusie novels, there is a bit of a mystery (murder! blackmail! assault!) but it's lightweight. Well, unless you're the guy that bites it. Well, nobody liked him anyway.
I have one nitpicky little beef with the story. Ms Crusie relies a little on the sentence construction of "...", Phin said. "...", Sophie said. It gets a little grating when a scene starts to get long (imagine repeating he said. she said. he said. she said. over and over again). I don't know if it's ok in print but annoying on audible or what. Just saying it kept popping up to irk me. It's not enough of a problem to take off a star though.
I listened to this book (audible.com) and LOVED the narrator, Aasne Vigesaa. She made this older book come to life with her reading. I would listen to anything she narrates, she's that good. She's the icing on the cake that is Jennifer Crusie, who writes with a light hand that seems to say, "Don't mind me, I'm a bit of fluff" but who's writing is really snappy and makes you laugh, sometimes snort, all the while raising the temperature. Ms Vigesaa complements the story beautifully. Not a surprise then, that I'll finish the series and probably relisten to this. Given the memorable dialogue, I might get it for my Kindle.
Absolutely. I picked up this book solely for the narration, Aasne Vigesaa is exceptional, but the story was so quirky, funny and enjoyable I fell in love with it as well.
Finn, I love his attitude, he has an uncomplicated maleness about him.
Yes I have. I think this is one of the best since I loved the story so much. I keep looking the books that she has narrated and I wish there were more in the Romance genre. She has this awesome melodic voice and does a great build up when reading. I absolutely love her female and male narrations
I would say there were a lot. The love scenes are out of this world funny in a very good way. The reaction of the characters was hilarious both during and after and the conversation priceless.
More books from this narrator please!!!!
I love listening to Jennifer Crusie books in the car: they are light but entertaining. (Of course, I always end up bringing them into the house because I don't want the story to stop!) This was no exception.
While parts of the story are perhaps a little unrealistic, this is another fun and entertaining Jennifer Crusie book!
I loved everything about the book, but I am a lover of chick lit :)
I believe there are 3 elements to a great romance audible book: good narration, believable plot, flawed characters and great dialogue!
I am not a big fan of Jennifer Crusie, however I liked this book. I enjoyed the relationship between Phin and Sophie. The narration was good. That pretty much sums it up!
Sophie Dempsey and her sister Abby take a break from their wedding photography business to take a job in small town Temptation OH. Even with a family legacy of con artists Sophie finds her skills challenged by the cover ups and intrigue of small town politics, a dead body and falling in love with the major. One of my favorite characters is the major's precocious 9 yr old daughter Dilly who is a master a manipulation and manages to trap Sophie into loving her.
This audiobook is so funny my cheeks got tired from grinning continuously for 10 hours. For optimum fun follow this book immediately with "Faking It" that follows their brother Davy and several other common characters.
