"A romantic comedy that adds luster to the genre, this effervescent tale will please readers who can relate to Sophie's undaunted exploration of all her desires." (Publishers Weekly)
"Funny, sexy, and wise - it's time to welcome Crusie into the pantheon of top-flight romance writers." (Kirkus Reviews)
The rhythm was slightly off. The whole package is not quite tight. But all in all it is worth the time to listen.
I really liked Phin, and I came to care about Sophie. I thought the setups for some of the sexual interludes were less than believable, but believability is not a priority with Crusie's stories.
The book was fun. Not her best, not her worst.
The first 30 minutes of the book were comprised of one unending sentence. No audible punctuation, no pausing and read very fast. There was no discernible differences between characterizations, making the dialogue very difficult to follow. It was exhausting.
It might be a cute story to read, but not to listen to.
Vapid characters, vapid storytelling, and lackluster narrating. Crusie certainly appears to have a following, but after this book, I'm not inclined to read her again.
I ignore genre labels. Some of my favorite books are outside my genre comfort zone. Listening to audiobooks is still reading. Not theater.
... my favorite combination.
Thoroughly enjoyed this book. Sometimes you just need a book that you don't have to take seriously. And there is no way to take this book seriously.
I love the Dempsy family. They are about as disreputable as it gets. And Temptation, as towns go, is pretty dysfunctional. When you add quick-witted dialog and a great narrator, it makes a very entertaining book.
I loved the chemistry between the two main characters as well as all the crazies orbiting around them.
Cruise can be inconsistent. Never bad, but not always good. She out does herself in this and especially in the sequel - Faking It. I wish she wrote more books about the Dempsy family. They are her best characters by far.
"A children's story that can only be enjoyed by children is not a good children's story in the slightest.” --C.S. Lewis
Oh, it's about the same as most of the others.
I just crack up every time I think of the different paint jobs on the water tower.
Welcome To Temptation is one of my favorite Jennifer Crusie books, so when I was between novels and wanted to listen to something fun and easy I picked it up--I have been enjoying listening to the Audible versions of all of her novels.
Not with the same narrator, it was monotone, fast even at lowest speed and no real presentation. So disappointed.
Couldn't bear listening to get into story.
There are many good narrators, one who can tell the story and make
The listening an experience. She could have been reciting the periodic table it was that monotonous.
Wont buy anything with this narrator. Sorry, generally I have a tolerance but it was a frustrating experience.
Can't rate the story I couldn't stand the voice of the narrator. Not trying to be rude just not pleasant.
Judge me not
Number One because there is humour, sex, great storylines going on
Faking It - same author and narrator This one is my Second best book. Lots of humour, sex, drama and brilliant vocalisation.
Yes Aasne Vigesaa's vocalisation of male and female characters, young, old, sophisticated, rough as, is brilliant listening. I enjoy listening to her - could listen to her story telling all day.
Laughed a lot, enjoyed it thoroughly.
Would highly recommend it if you do not mind sex, humour and a great plot. Highly entertaining book.
Live the life you have imagined...
I enjoyed the book, but I will not be looking for the rest of the series. Several characters were annoying, but I didn't mind the main ones.
This is one my favorite audio books. Most romance novels have terrible narration, I find myself picking books as much for the narrator as I do the story or author. The narrator nails this story, gets the edginess and humor of the characters. It's funny and sexy story and the characters are rich and three dimensional. If only most audio books could deliver this kind of storytelling. I have listened to this book more than once and it enjoy it every time
