Publisher's summary

The choice between adhering to a long-held pact and finally accepting love could prove Lady Tabitha Shelton's unhinging. She is plump, plain, pleasant... and thoroughly unappealing to any of the men of the ton - apart from fortune hunters. A self-appointed wallflower, she has every intention of remaining one. Tabitha made a vow of spinsterhood with her cousins when they were girls, and she refuses to go back on her word. So far, she's proven herself quite adept at warding off the blasted fortune hunters' pursuits.

Noah deLancie, Marquess of Devonport, would prefer to marry for love and companionship - he's a gentleman through and through - but circumstances have forced his hand: he needs money as badly as he needs a bride. When Noah's brother-in-law suggests pursuit of his sister, Tabitha, a woman with a dowry large enough to cause even Croesus to blush and who is tantalizingly good company to boot, Noah stumbles into the future he hopes to secure. He'll stop at nothing to convince Tabitha to marry him. Nothing, that is, except perhaps the barrel of a dueling pistol, held to his face by his ladylove.

Same Story Different Author

Why can I not quit? Some how, I am not feeling this genre anymore. Powerful men getting over. Powerless Woman.

On to my review. There's all kinds of humor. I am sure that if I come back and give it a new listen I'll probably edit this review.

Distracted by mispronunciations!

Enjoyable story., a light hearted historical romance . Characters with an abundance of personality. Heroine is very real.... with absolutely perfect perceived 'imperfections'. She got a tad irritating at one point but I think that that was just me, I hope.

NARRATOR : ? REALLY? "are there any new 'fowls' at your stables?". FOWLS? FOALS!
And that is just 1 example of the horrendous pronunciation errors.
Honestly, I don't mind her voice or character voices or speed or....etc. But as I am enjoying the story a MAJOR error will pull me back from the story and I have to concentrate to get back into it. Such a shame. Are there no editors who catch these things.

CREDITWORTHY? : Ummmm... Yes.... if you know what your getting it is enjoyable.

HEAT FACTOR: Medium High... but not the whole stories focus.

Dreadful narrator! Spoiled the whole book for me.

What did you like best about Wallflower? What did you like least?

Liked the premise of the story, although the heroine was a bit of a twit. Felt sorry for the hero some of the time. BUT, you teach people how to treat you, so the sympathy didn't last very long.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Wallflower?

I can't say. I didn't finish the book.

What didn’t you like about Sherill Turner’s performance?

Sherill Turner doesn't have a clue. She's obviously Australian, and she's also very obviously been to elocution classes, but there are many lapses in accent, and that drives me nuts. Pity the elocution classes didn't also tell her about taking a breath when punctuation marks are evidently indictating one should. Apart from that, the mispronunciations really put my teeth on edge. Baby horses are foals, NOT fowls! One of myriad that put me off enough to make me stop listening altogether. I've made a note to self, and won't be getting any more of this narrator's efforts.

Not my cup of tea

Just couldn't get into it. Not what I expected. There was too much of a touchy feely atmosphere for me.

I wanted to love this

This had the makings of my favorite book: spinster, non-skinny character falls for her brother’s longtime friend who has secretly admired her from afar, but I can’t even finish it.

The narrator is okay, but there are some glaring mispronunciations that I just could not get passed: it it is foal not FOWL.

The MFC has been told her entire life that’s she’s fat and ugly, so it’s understandable that she would be suspicious of anyone’s intentions. I can 100% get on board with that. I can almost completely understand her motives, but she’s still frustrating to follow and honestly if I was the MMC I wouldn’t want her personality as written.

The thing that really got me though was the constant and almost cruel descriptions of the MFC….I almost expected her to bring in whale and cow references next. We get it, she’s fat there is no need to degrade her every 90 seconds. It was just a bit much for me.

The narrator is racing for the finish line!

Just started to listen to this one.
Boy, Sherill Turner (narrator) is quite in a hurry! Does she thinks this is a RACE?
Wonder if she as another book to read.

Who knows if it's a good book or not?

It was so hard to get past the narrator's dreadful speech pattern that I couldn't have told you for sure if it was a good book or not. The way she SPIT! OUT! WORDS! in a staccato rhythym made me glad I wasn't having a face to face conversation with her.

Every so often, she forgot herself and her voice returned to a normal pattern.

I gave up after a few chapters and finished the book on Kindle.

The health department should be warned about this woman. I think I might have caught the flu.
