I like Irene Hannon's stories and was glad to see a new one was available. I wish I had bought the print version instead of the Audible recording. While I found the story good, the narration was not. More than once I turned it off and considered returning it. I'm not sure how to discribe what I so disliked. Celeste Ciulla does not do male voices well and there were many times that I wasn't sure which character was speaking. The thing that really annoyed me was her inflection and emphasis. Many times she sounded like a fifth grader that the teacher warned to watch puncuation and to add emotion when you read. Ms. Ciulla is not whiney or shrill, just flat with force emotion. On the whole the narrator ruined this listen for me. She is certainly not the worst I've heard but I will think twice about using a credit on another of her performances.
Loved this romantic suspense, it was extremely well written and kept me on the edge of my seat. The narrator was excellent as well and really added to the story.
I don't usually leave reviews but it was very difficult to finish this book due to the poor narration! It seemed like she should be narrating a teenage love story and not this! The storyline was ok for the most part but it was just hard to enjoy listening to it! This was my first Irene Hannon book..not sure if I will read another??
Once again Irene Hannon has written an awesome story, intertwined with mystery, suspense, romance & inspiration! Looking forward to the next in this series!
This story sounded really promising, and from what I was listened to it seemed to deliver. The writing was great, the characters believable... I'm actually quite likely to pick this book up in print and listen to other books by the same author. Unfortunately, the narrator was a little... over the top? It sounded more like an enthusiastic infomercial than a mystery novel. She's probably wonderful with comedies or maybe even romances, but in a mystery/thriller her narration was just distracting.
I had hoped that given time I wouldn't notice her style so much, the way people's accents start to fade after you've had enough conversations with them, but alas - that was not the case. I couldn't get past it and had to return it.
When I started reading this I had a solution in mind but changed my mind as I continued my read. Fun characters. I enjoyed the book and have already recommended it to my friends; especially my friends from St. Louis.
The story line was okay. A bit predictible, but interesting.
Yes. It wasn't too bad. Passes the time.
The narrator is the main reason I'm leaving a review. As a person, I'm sure that she's lovely, and she has a great voice. BUT she pauses in all the wrong places and the voices she uses for different characters just doesn't fit. It just doesn't flow and can be very annoying.
Good book, not so good narrator.
First book by this author, but definitely not the last! Smooth narration and couldn't wait to find out what happened next. I really enjoyed the storyline and the characters were very relatable. I will be downloading the next in the series right now :-)
