I like Irene Hannon's stories and was glad to see a new one was available. I wish I had bought the print version instead of the Audible recording. While I found the story good, the narration was not. More than once I turned it off and considered returning it. I'm not sure how to discribe what I so disliked. Celeste Ciulla does not do male voices well and there were many times that I wasn't sure which character was speaking. The thing that really annoyed me was her inflection and emphasis. Many times she sounded like a fifth grader that the teacher warned to watch puncuation and to add emotion when you read. Ms. Ciulla is not whiney or shrill, just flat with force emotion. On the whole the narrator ruined this listen for me. She is certainly not the worst I've heard but I will think twice about using a credit on another of her performances.
This was a fantastic book, so well written and with everything that I love. The narrator added so much to this experience I think that Celeste Ciulla did a wonderful job with all the characters it was very easy to know who was speaking.
The synopsis was very intriguing. I was so excited about listening to this book at first. The first chapter or so was very interesting. However, it turned out to be very disappointing. It wasn't really a mystery because we found out from the very beginning who the bad guy was. To me it seemed to be much more of a romance book, which I tend to avoid..I got tired of hearing how much the characters wanted each other (so repetitive). A 4 or 5 star book for me needs a lot more suspense and mystery, more character development and a narrator who can make each character come alive and doesn't have distracting intonation. I was also disappointed that there wasn't more mention of God. I thought this was a Christian author. I like inspirational books that have a spiritual lesson we can learn from, but that's just my preference.
I did not care for the narrator at all. She had very odd intonation at the end of sentences. In addition, I didn't care for the voices she used for the characters.
It's hard to say. I felt like I didn't really get to know any of the characters very much. There was certainly not enough character development in my opinion. I did find the male detectives a bit annoying. They acted like teenagers with their teasing and going on about how "hot" the lead female character was.
Unfortunately, I will not be purchasing anymore books from this author or books read by this narrator.
It definitely met my expectations.
The best parts, when Moira finally found the truth & when Cal proposed.
The performance was good with the different voices.
You won't be sorry if you get this book, I found it very interesting, and some romance, but as other book's I have listened to, most of them had sex in them, this was just a very good audio book with good romance, Be sure to get the whole series. as the next one just get's better.
Edge of seat
Not sure...but it was a good mystery
Not very exciting
Do you truly know your neighbor? Your spouse? Your friend?
I really enjoyed the story, but the narrator was clearly just reading lines. Not done as well as some of the others I have listened to.
But... the narration isn't so bad that I won't listen again.. the book is too good for that!
I loved the characters. It is a little thin in story line~but it is a first in series....The narrator is just horrible!! I might not buy the second because her fake male voice and rotten intonations are very distracting. I may just read this series.
The characters are likable.
