Publisher's summary

Joanne Walker has three days to learn to use her shamanic powers and save the world from the unleashed Wild Hunt.

No worries. No pressure. Never mind the lack of sleep, the perplexing new talent for healing herself from fatal wounds, or the cryptic, talking coyote who appears in her dreams.

And if all that's not bad enough, in the three years Joanne's been a cop, she's never seen a dead body, but she's just come across her second in three days.

It's been a bitch of a week. And it isn't over yet.

Critic reviews

"A swift pace, a good mystery, a likeable protagonist, magic, danger, Urban Shaman has them in spades." (Jim Butcher, author of the best-selling series The Dresden Files)

Seems confusing to me

I started off really liking this book. The characters are very interesting and I think the narrator does and excellent job, with the different voices. As the book goes on, she goes in and out of a dream state, or trance state, where she leaves her body behind, to do things in the otherworld, I guess. It was very confusing to me, to tell just when she was there, and which characters were actually with her. Maybe I need to actually read the book, instead of listen to it. Don't know if it would make more sense on paper or not. At any rate, I probably won't, cause there are so many other books waiting to be read.

I will be telling my friends about this series of books. The Author and narrator.

Cool Story

Really loved the story. Unique characters. I loved the tension/friction between Walker and Morrison and the camaraderie between Jo and Gary. Plot was solid and had great detail. Narrator is great as well.

Great start to a series

Enjoyed the story. One glitch at chapter 16. The story starts over, had to fast forward a minute or so to get back to the story.

Interesting story, adequate narration.

The story was entertaining and kept me interested, but the narrator just wasn't as exciting as some of my favorite audiobooks. She did a good job, it just didn't feel as polished and interactive ad I'm used to. I've heard great things about this series, so I'll give book 2 a shot and see if that interests me enough to continue with the series.

The characters are starting to develop and I kind of want to see what happens with them next. The lead character is coming into her new found abilities and I think it might pick up after this book.

Deliciously Entertaining

I laughed. I cried. I cussed. I giggled. One of the best books out there and brilliantly performed.

Admittedly surprised

This was maybe my most surprising read of the year so far: a book by harlequin, part of the Audible romance package, and it legitimately didn't have a single love scene. I am not complaining! I just have to admit that I was surprised. I kinda expected at least one, y'know?

The story itself was fine. I found the "shamanic magic" performed to be pretty superpowered, especially considering Jo, the shaman in question, basically gleaned all she knew of shamanic practice from a new age ... website? I liked her mechanic mind's way of puzzling out analogies for the magic, though. Anyway, she was going to have to figure out the power somehow, right?

I'll move along to the next in the series.
