Heiress Engaged to Marry Playboy!

Lexi Titan can just see the headlines. All of Titanville will be buzzing. Not that she has any other choice. Faced with exactly thirty days to come up with two million dollars, she is out of options. Marry Cruz Rodriguez or lose everything - the successful day spa she built herself, her tyrant of a father's respect. And the long-standing competition with her sisters for the family business.

Cruz has money, success, smoldering good looks - everything but the blue blood needed to become a true member of Texas society. If Lexi agrees to be his fiancée for six months, lending him her famous father's influence and connections, he'll hand her a check on the spot. And in six months they'll go their separate ways.

But neither one is prepared for their long-ago shared passion to throw a wrench into what would seem to be the perfect deal.

Poor Narration

I’m a big fan of Mallery and I want to like the premise of this book but the narration is so half-assed and one-note it’s really difficult. You can tell that she is reading slowly at parts, and employing more effort at pronouncing the next word than putting emotion into the character. Especially where she voices the Latino characters, it sounds like an amateur performance.

Perhaps this is an early work of hers but I will try to avoid this narrator from now on.

Enjoyable.....but.....

I enjoyed the story a lot and the storyteller did a great job. But they didn't resolve the issue of Garth. With no resolution it made the story not with listening to.

Under Her Skin is a Must Listen

The love story between Lexi and Cruz is enough to make this a page turner--two people who lost touch a decade ago reuniting to find they're perfect for each other. But, its really all of the sub-plots which make this a must have: Cruz's relationship with his family, Lexi's relationships with her sisters, her being sabotaged by an unknown man, and her trying to win the love and affection of an unfeeling father.

The only drawback to the story is a certain event, pivotal to the plot, which happens between Lexi and Cruz. I won't spoil it for you, but it's difficult to believe such a thing would happen between two experienced, educated adults.

I thought the reader did a great job, for the most part. But, for some reason she never pronounced the Gs on words ending in -ing. (Perhaps this was a misguided attempt at a southern twang, or how Mallery wrote it.) Other than that, I think she did a fine job. It's definitely not something that should prevent one from purchasing this audiobook.

Overall, I really enjoyed listening to this and highly recommend it.

1st in a series of 4

And for the 1st it’s good! The story was good, the back stories were good. The characters were well developed, the one daughters story is played out for a HEA yet the big mystery is set to continue although the feeling of a cliffhanger isn’t present... that’s well done.

The narrator did a really good job, and other than occasionally starting a phrase with a touch of the wrong accent it was perfect. There was never any doubt who was speaking, except once when the accents got tangled but even then if you were listening to the actual words you knew.

Steamy hot love scenes but not sex driven story lines. Well, not the act itself anyway.

I’d say worth a credit if you don’t have the romance package.... definitely!

Didn't make me want to listen to the series

This is the beginning of a series with at least 4 books, and I don't have any curiosity to hear more of their stories. The ugly parent holding potential inheritance over their heads is of no interest to me. This was disappointing, since I have really enjoyed some of Mallery's stories. Now that I've read quite a few of her stories I realize she's a very hit or miss author for me. This series is a miss. I'll probably go discover some authors I find more consistent and pass on purchasing more of her books.

Okay Melodrama

The characters are interesting. A Harlequin romance.

If you like Texas stories, or the TV show Dallas, or drama of the 1 percent, you’ll like this book.

Mediocre

I first became acquainted with Susan Mallery through her "Buchanan" series and fell in love with her work. However, I have been disappointed with each series since. I was hoping that this new series would capture some of the magical mixture of humor and romance that I originally found in her work, but instead I found this cast of characters to be shallow and not very funny at all. I hope the next book is better, but at this point I've learned not to expect much better than a series of mediocre characters fumbling through a lackluster romance. Oh, and the narrator was awful!

Another Mallery UGH!

Just don’t bother. Seriously Ithis book is garbage at its best. I like Susan Mallery books, though I get bored with Tanya Eby reading most of them. But be careful what you wish for because Julie Frances’ performance is just horrible. These must be older books. I don’t think Mallery would produce these books now.
