Sometimes, the place you belong isn't where you began....
With an accounting degree that's getting her nowhere, Chloe Malinski spends her nights waitressing and her days housesitting in a neighborhood that's infinitely beyond her reach or comfort zone. But she knows all too well that no one wants a pauper in their mansion, so she's gotten good - maybe a little too good - at faking it 'til she makes it.
With more baggage than any airline, Lawton Rastor made his money through prizefighting - and not the kind with padded gloves and some bowtie-wearing referee. He made it through the gritty, back-alley kind where sweaty money changed hands over beer and bimbos.
She's a poor girl from Hamtramck. He's a billionaire bad boy from Detroit. They should've never crossed paths. But when they do, thanks to Chloe's latest housesitting gig, the collision of sparks, secrets, and misunderstandings leaves both of them yearning to belong exactly where they shouldn't - with each other.

I like that the heroine, regardless of her inner thoughts and turmoil, is strong enough to balance with the "alpha" male in this story. She has been through enough to keep it real with him instead of cowering and giving in to him when it really matters. Though the story lacks some depth, I will definitely purchase the second book, I have somehow become invested in these characters and I NEED to see how it plays out.
I like that Lawton, of course a beautiful, famous man, is not afraid to tell Chloe how he feels. The intimate moments between the two would have to be my favorite parts, They, along with most of the dialogue, seems real. I think many would say it was lacking in the depth department, but i think it was more like what people would say. No big flowery words that sound stupid coming from a man's mouth. Though I usually like my books WAY steamier, this one is a keeper.
Calm. Mallon's voice, though a little too much at times, brings a calm to the story. I would read through it and devour it, losing some of the story in the process. Even during intense parts of the story, Mallon's voice is consistently just... calm... without being monotone, and with a great male voice, too.
Yes, only because of the negligent, snarky boss at the restaurant. Been there, dealt with that, NO FUN!
Otherwise, the CLIFF-HANGER ending is pretty intense.
I am more surprised than anyone who knows my usual preference in books, that I really enjoyed this book. I am itching for part 2!
Great original storyline.
I loved the fact that the girl was from Hamtramck - since I grew up there as well. Chloe seems like a real person, nothing fake.
She brings more excitement and feeling to Chloe. And even make Lawton even more loveable.
Yes, it was more angry at Lawton for the whole misunderstanding.
I received a copy from the author in exchange for an honest review.
So goodreads recommended this book for me based on another book I read. I had never hear of the author, not too many reviews on goodreads but the blurb was saying read me. This book pulled me in so much and kept me wanting the next page I skipped sleeping just to read. Wow who doesn't want to read about the bad boy billionaire who nay or may not have gotten all of him money cleanly.. While you get to know Lawton and his major insecurities you meet Chloe who is a tough girl with a messed up family and a lifestyle she doesn't want Lawton to know about because she believes he will feel differently about her.. I am sitting at the edge of my seat waiting on book two, I need to know what happens next.
Lawton -- is just simply sex on a stick
I am a 46 year old woman who works at a Life Insurance Company and I love to listen to books to make my days go by faster.
I wish the Narrator didn't talk so breathy. It is really bad. Sometimes you think of turning it off because of her. But if you can overcome that, the story is ok. Nothing spectacular.
I really enjoy the world of books! Narration just add layers to that world... don't u think? :)
Honestly, I got bored in the very beginning, so it took me like 3 times to listen to this. Once I got past like chapter 10, the story picked up a bit. It was ok.. not a relisten for me... it was just good, nothing grand, and definately not a waste of time. I am glad I finally finshed listening though...
Narration was eh! Could have been better; however, I did like the male voices.
Nice credit... not worth a buy... definately a sale.
This was an ok listen but most of it was Chloe.... her thoughts, her needs, her actions, her wants, her insecurities, her mood, her feelings... well you get the drift and only sometimes is there actual conversations between her and other characters. She is hiding so many secrets but gets annoyed when Lawton asks what's wrong. She neither shares or gives him any helpful information and, although he has plenty of secrets if his own, I feel it's only Lawton that's truly working at the relationship. But without truth and trust they have nothing.
The relationship didn't happen until late in the book, the sex scenes needed work and there was no real romance because they're both hiding so much from each other and the Author just skipped the two weeks that they were together. Chloe had such a depressing life with her step Mother's bad attitude, her finances, her job, her car, her stolen phone and her Career and when she took 'that picture' you just knew what was going to happen.
Worth a credit? Really likeable, thoughtful, kind and drool-worthy Billionaire Hero but a Heroine that's independent, strong but poor with an attitude that'll drive you round the bend. Because of the tasty covers I downloaded both books available (yes folks I'm that shallow) and I'm glad to say that book 2 is sounding better than book 1, because going on the merits of book 1, then I wouldn't have bothered following this trilogy which ends on a cliffhanger. Hopefully this Author is finding her way and, by book 2 or 3 she will have upped her game.
