Publisher's summary

From Colleen Hoover, the #1 New York Times bestselling author of It Ends With Us, a heart-wrenching love story that proves attraction at first sight can be messy.

When Tate Collins meets airline pilot Miles Archer, she doesn't think it's love at first sight. They wouldn’t even go so far as to consider themselves friends. The only thing Tate and Miles have in common is an undeniable mutual attraction. Once their desires are out in the open, they realize they have the perfect set-up. He doesn’t want love, she doesn’t have time for love, so that just leaves the sex. Their arrangement could be surprisingly seamless, as long as Tate can stick to the only two rules Miles has for her.

Never ask about the past.
Don’t expect a future.

They think they can handle it, but realize almost immediately they can’t handle it at all.

Hearts get infiltrated.
Promises get broken.
Rules get shattered.
Love gets ugly.

Ugh!

Maybe I'm just over the whole broken soul dragging his heart around for hours of listening torture to be miraculously healed by some chick hopping into bed with him. It's just so dumb. The story line is weak and is mainly filled with fluff of the same agonizing dilema over and over and over and over and all they do is have sex that just gets monotonous. The dialogue is mainly in their heads so very little interaction...aside from the sex....which wasn't that good.
As for the narrators...Grace Grant was really choppy at times in her reading and Deacon Lee isnt always the strongest narrator but in his defense his character was pretty weak so what are you going to do?
Ugh!!!

Better Male Narrator

Grace Grant was excellent as always. I just wish the would've picked a better narrator for Miles. I almost didn't think I would finish because his voice is so whiney. I did however skip a lot of the Miles parts.

Good story, difficult listening

The male narration was difficult to listen too. He seemed choppy and not comfortable with the part.

🌟🌟 5 Stars 🌟🌟

I love this story. It was heartbreaking and healing. I love that we get to see them fall in love and see them both grow. The only thing I can say besides how much I love it is Miles from the past chapters comes across a little creepy. I don't know if that is the narration or the way he is written. He doesn't speak like a normal person, it's more like he's telling the story to us even though it's written in the first person POV and he says her name so many times. But that didn't change how much I like this book.

I love 1/2 the narration. Grace Grant is an awesome narrator, her male and female voices are great. Deacon Lee on the other hand isn't my first choice for Miles. He is a good narrator but he just didn't fit the Miles in my head. Also he sounds too much like John Malkovich for me.

BEWARE... THIS BOOK WILL HURT

I've just gone through about 9 hours of tension, heartbreak and drama followed by about 15 minutes of joy...... and I wouldn't change a thing because this was a well-written, tough, raw, touching and very emotional love story that morphs into one of grief and suffering that loss brings, followed by hope, forgiveness and finally redemption.

It's not the usual 'feel good' romance but a bitter-sweet one as it continually takes you backwards 6 years slowly feeding you bits of the history of young forbidden love and the devastating consequences that followed then forward to the heartache of a present day relationship where one lover can only offer sex as his shattered heart has no more to give and the other lover hangs on because she want it all.

Worth a credit? If you're in the mood for a totally different kind of love story.... one that will wring out so many different emotions from you like hope, happiness, grief, pain and anguish and back again, and then finally gives you a HEA ending, then this book is for you. Creditworthy only if you're ready for a torturous, but beautiful, ride.

SOOOOOO good!

Would you consider the audio edition of Ugly Love to be better than the print version?

Yes, always, if the narrators are good, they bring the book to life. These two did a great job.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Ugly Love?

The part where we finally found out what happened to Rachel. Completely devastating.

What about Grace Grant and Deacon Lee ’s performance did you like?

They really projected the emotions of the characters.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I did. I listened all day.

Any additional comments?

This is my first book by this author. I've been hearing a lot about her books, and when my book club friend offered to send me a copy, I said yes. I'm so thankful for the opportunity to try a new to me author. I absolutely loved this book, and look forward to reading many more.

5 Ugly Love Stars

How do you review one of your most favorite books? I have read, and or listened to this book a total of 7 times. Yep 7.. And I still don’t have the words to describe why this book is a must read or why I like it as much as I do.

Maybe it’s the fact I can see young Miles and Rachael in myself. That total feeling of being terrified out of your brain but willing to do anything to make it work. No matter how hard you know it’s going to be.
Thank god my outcome wasn't like theirs.

Maybe I can see the utter devastation in an older Miles and I can’t help but feel all the feels for him?
Maybe I like this book so much because Tate is the healer without knowing she is? I don’t know, but what I can tell you is that, I will read this book again and again. And I will find new things liked and didn't like about this book.

Cap is a favorite of mine; his advice was sweet and kind. And his one line about not being able to give advice because in order to give advice he better know what the heck he was talking about, just got me in the heart. Everyone needs a Cap in their lives.

I will end this review with a favorite quote of mine.
Tate to Cap, and Cap to Tate.

“What do you think would make a man never want to experience love again?”
“I suppose if a man lived through the ugliest side of love, he might never want to experience it again.”

*You don't have to like my review but its 100% my opinion, and I am allowed to have it.*

Everybody hurts... sometimes

Although it's a good emotional and rough story, well written, after 50% of the book, I'm afraid I didn't like the most mercurial important character in the book. Yes I had hope it would be ok, but...

I don't understand him, so selfish!

You know, you're not alone Miles! Some people actually lost more than one love by accident or else and they moved on without leaving a wreck behind. Can't think of one good thing about Miles. He was smarter when he was 18... A man this big and so self center. I understand he's hurt but exaggerating words and silent, silence but deafening... duh

You're smart enough to know, your friends worry about you but you can't care less about them.

Ian was so good to you, even Corbin was taking care of you and most of all, Tate! How could you torture her so and not Rachel, who left you?
Are you aware they had feelings too and maybe they were hurt like you, before they met you?

Everybody hurts... sometimes.

Loved Cap! What an amazing and wise old man! And I got to say that Tate saved a man who doesn't deserved to be saved at that moment.

All through the book, too much information about the "six years earlier" and I wasn't impressed. I wanted to know more about the present and the development and interaction between Miles and Tate.

I wanted more about the realization of Miles almost throwing his whole life away! His story was tragic, ok! But there's no hope, so why live and let others feel pain?

If you loved Maybe Someday, this isn't enough and doesn't come close.

I felt the ugliness not in the story, but in the character...

What a disappointment!

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

The book.... it was awfull!

What was most disappointing about Colleen Hoover’s story?

I cannot believe this book was written by Colleen Hoover. She is one of the best author's out there. I have loved all of her other stories, but this was so bad.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Grace Grant and Deacon Lee ?

I have listened to other audiobooks narratored by these authors. I thiink the are great. However, with they did not stand a chance with this book because of the way it was written. Not their fault, the narrators still are great.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

This book made me angry. Tate let Miles walk all over her. I am a fan of angst love stories. Tortured individuals finding their HEA. I understand they were consenting adults but WTF. This was without fail one of the worst love stories I have ever heard. I have never listened to or read a book that was so self deprecating before. Disappointed? TOTALLY!!!
