Publisher's summary

Cloistered as a faculty member at a small college, beautiful Hannah Jessett can almost forget her family heritage. Few know she's the niece of Elizabeth Nord, the legendary anthropologist who stunned the world with her revolutionary work, until her aunt dies, leaving Hannah in sole possession of her priceless unpublished journals.

But Hannah has other matters to contend with. Her brother's company is about to be destroyed by Gideon Cage, a wealthy entrepreneur with a notorious reputation in the boardroom, and the bedroom.

When she confronts Gideon, all she sees is a powerful man with a fast smile and soft eyes. Yet before she can catch her breath and really understand this puzzle of a man, her whole world is suddenly threatened: her brother, her aunt's legacy, her heart, and her life!

Not really fate

A story about desire- desire for a vocation versus the desire for a. man.
why can't she have both? I really enjoyed the story of a woman finding her aunt's archaeological journals and researching her life.

Disappointing

The author pulls you in as usual with a plot that promises revelations about a culture of women who control the social order of the community on a mysterious island. The heroes are a handsome ruthless business tycoon and a bright guidance counselor at a small college in Seattle. The counselor is the niece of a famed anthropologist whose writings made the islands culture famous. Regrettably the characters are narrowly drawn and the insights are thin. Save it for the bathroom or a plane ride

Twist of Fate

It started out strong but just didn't quite get there for me. It was ok.

Okay

This is clearly one of Jayne's earlier works. No cell phones, computers, email, etc. in the story. It was a little cheezy and I never felt the connection between the main characters. Parts of it were difficult to listen to because it was so unrealistic. I used it while walking with my iPod and it was oaky for that.

Dragged out

Way to many chapters.
Could have written this book in half the chapters.
Thank you

Ick

I didn't like the primary character - there was no internal logic to her thinking. Hanna was supposed to be highly sensitive toward other people, but she was judgmental and preachy. She was supposed to be highly principled and very smart about long term consequences, and yet one future she envisioned for herself was so far beyond anything principled, it was ludicrous. And she dithered, covering the same ground over and over again. Krentz's characters rarely dither. There was plenty of snappy back and forth dialog between Hanna and Gideon, but it had no spark of warmth and no playfulness. It was a surprisingly passionless novel. Just dreary.

But Nellie Chalfant was excellent and did her best to breathe life into the characters. The only reason I finished the book was because of her performance. I will look to see what other books she's narrated.

Fantastic listen

This book is by far one of my favorites that I have listened to on audible! It grabbed my attention from the beginning and I was sad when it was over. Hannah and Gideon were captivating characters

Twist of Fate

I really enjoyed this book. The story was engaging and actually had some depth. The characters were realistic and I liked them. The reader was very good. I got lost in the story and had no problem distiguishing characters. Her reading was at a very comfortable pace. I would listen to anything read by Nellie Chalfant.

Not Jaynes best.

I picked this up on sale and am glad I didn't waste a whole creadit. The narrator was okay but the story not so much. I didn't care for the characters so that leaves me with a story that I was glad I was finished with.
