Dating the Prince of Darkness has its challenges....

Leila's psychic abilities have been failing her, and now she isn't sure what the future holds. If that weren't enough, her lover, Vlad, has been acting distant. Though Leila is a mere mortal, she's also a modern woman who refuses to accept the cold-shoulder treatment forever - especially from the darkly handsome vampire who still won't admit that he loves her....

Like choosing between eternal love and a loveless eternity....

Soon circumstances send Leila back to the carnival circuit, where tragedy strikes. And when she finds herself in the crosshairs of a killer who may be closer than she realizes, Leila must decide who to trust - the fiery vampire who arouses her passions like no other or the tortured knight who longs to be more than a friend? With danger stalking her every step of the way, all it takes is one wrong move to damn her for eternity....

Another cliff-hanger, more Vlad and Leila to come!

Wow! I just finished listening to Twice Tempted and I am blown away. I have been counting the months, days and then minutes after listening to "Once Burned", the first story about Vlad and Leila. I preordered the audiobook and downloaded it seconds after it appeared in my library.

The first story was really interesting, as unlike the previous novels in the Night Huntress World where the vampires, ghouls and demons have special powers, this time it is Leila, the human, who has extraordinary gifts. However, unlike the Night Huntress novels which achieved closure for the main story arc in each novel, Once Burned left us hanging.

This story has even more plot twists, with unpredictable events continually surprising the reader, yet they are integrated seamlessly into the plot line. Lots of trouble, broken hearts and romance, action and adventure, loyalty and betrayal. What a wild ride!

However, at the end, just when I thought the whole plot was going to wrap up nicely, Jeanine Frost left us with another cliff hanger! I am really glad that there will be more Vlad and Leila, but now I need to go scour the author's website to see how long I will have to spend in agonized waiting to find out how this story finally ends! I sure hope it won't be any longer than the wait for this book.

If you read Once Burned, if you are a Night Huntress Cat and Bones fan, this is a must buy audiobook. However if you are as impatient as I am, you may want to wait until this mini series within the larger Night Huntress World has concluded, as the wait is really going to kill me!

Once again, Tavia Gilbert has done a fantastic job with the narration and her skill really enhanced an already exciting story, and bravo to her and Frost for another great story. Hmmm. I think I'll have to listen to them back to back next. . . or maybe listen to the entire series again, as I do not want to leave the Night Huntress World!

Love This Series! Can't Wait for the Next Book!

I love all books by Jeaniene Frost. If you're not familiar with the author, try "Halfway to the Grave" first and then go on from there. Then you'll enjoy the "Once Burned" book and then this one. This book was just as exciting as Once Burned and can't wait for the next one to come out. The narrator is great!

Sparse plot...

This is the second book in the Night Prince series featuring Vlad and Leila. This book picks up pretty much right after where the first book, Once Burned, left off. This is a planned trilogy with the third book as yet being untitled. I liked this book the same amount as the first one. I loved reading about Vlad but found that the plot wasn’t all that solid.

I listened to this on audiobook, the audiobook is very well done. The narrator, Tavia Gilbert, is the same narrator that has done all the Night Huntress audiobooks as well. She does an excellent job conveying character emotion and distinguishing between character voices. I highly recommend listening to any of the Night Price or Night Huntress books on audiobook.

Leila’s psychic abilities are failing her and Vlad is more distant than ever. When Vlad declares that he can never love her, she decides to cut her losses and leave him. Unfortunately for her as soon as she leaves him someone tries to kill her. The news of this sends Vlad into a furious rage. Leila is determined to find her killer and ensure her family’s safety while Vlad is determined to find Leila.

I was a bit frustrated with Leila’s character she is sooo dense, immature, and whiny when it comes to Vlad. She continually says she accepts him for who he is, but then she leaves him because she can’t accept who he is. Vlad is kind of his typical self; controlling and conniving but minus the humor that I loved so much in his characters in previous books. I felt like throughout this whole book Leila and Vlad had the same relationship problems over and over...they didn’t grow a ton as a couple.

I also still have some trouble with Leila’s “I got struck by lightening and am now full of electricity and psychic” backstory. It just seems very contrived and unbelievable to me.

There also isn’t a huge plot here, basically Leila almost gets killed when she leaves Vlad and her and Vlad have to figure out who is behind the attempt. This is a very romancey paranormal romance. Most of the book focuses on Leila and Vlad and their tumultuous path to a stable-ish relationship. There are some fun and surprising twists to the story that should keep the reader engaged.

The love scenes between Leila and Vlad are decently done. Leila is a lot more fiery than in the last book and makes a good challenge for Vlad. The way she stands up to him when no one else will makes her a good match for him. I did enjoy hearing about Vald’s past.

The story is engaging enough, there are a couple of cameos of Cat. So it was good to see her again, albeit very briefly. The book ends on a pretty big cliffhanger with not much resolved, so I always find that kind of annoying.

Overall an okay read. The plot for these books is more sparse than that in the Night Huntress novels. Most of the book focuses on Leila and Vlad’s tumultuous relationship. There is a small plot focused on trying to find out who tries to kill Leila early on in the story, but it definitely isn’t some huge and involved complicated plot. I would recommend this book to fans of the NIght Huntress series to to those who love very romancey paranormal romances.

Good story, terrible audio editing

What made the experience of listening to Twice Tempted the most enjoyable?

Enjoyed the continuing story of Vlad and Leila

What did you like best about this story?

Different storyline than other books in the series

What does Tavia Gilbert bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Tavia Gilbert does a fine job of narrating the story but I assume it is the audio editing that drove me crazy throughout the book. There is no pause at the end of most chapters, and it is very disconcerting to be listening to an action packed scene at one moment and without a breath in between the next chapter starts. This is the second book I have listened to within the last couple of weeks with this problem. The other was a Chicagoland Vampire series book. Is anyone in the production of these audiobooks actually listening to them after they are put together?

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Love and Betrayal

Any additional comments?

While I enjoyed the story, if I was to "read" it again, that is what I would do...read it. It ruins the experience of the story to always be playing catch up when a new chapter starts.

Interim Book - it was okay.

Looking at the ratings, I guess I'm swimming against the tide. I do love the author and I love the characters but this particular plot seemed to be pieced together and didn't arch or flow well for me. It seemed confusing, redundant in places and obviously predictable in others. In other words a wee bit frustrating. It just seemed to miss something as it rushed thru getting us to the next book. I didn't think it was a total fail, but just not the best I've read from this author. I do want to read the next book, and am hoping it will be worth the wait.

I like the narrator, but I do wonder if all the panting and gasping really necessary during the love scenes? Over the top dramatic bodice ripping not really needed - LOL!

It's an enjoyable read, but I'm looking forward to better Vlad and Leila in the future.

I really thought I would not like this one because she can't make every book great... Well I am glad I was wrong. Now to what gave me pause: did she have to be vamp so fast? Humanity seems to be a major rarity in these books.

Got to love Vlad!

The story was good, but i was surprised that the series wasn't over? I also felt that the narration was a bit rushed, especially from one chapter to the next. Otherwise, it was good.

Twice Tempted is hot, hot, hot!!!

Wonderful addition to the Night Prince series. As always Jeaniene Frost writes an excellent story and Tavia Gilbert brings that story to life for the listener. I am drawn to series because I like the continuation and development of the characters and the expansion of their worlds. Saying that, I would have liked to have had more interactions with other characters previously met in the Cat and Bones series. Still very enjoyable series. Without including a spoiler, I would have like a more definite ending but we know a third installment is coming. I will be one of the first in line for book three.
