A life hangs in the balance… A king held for ransom, a country under thumb, clans at one another’s throats. Malcolm of clan MacKintosh has enough to worry about without finding a mysterious lass sleeping on the side of his road. He tries to help her — in his overbearing, arrogant way — and winds up flat on his back. God’s blood, who is this woman…and why does she captivate him so?
And only she can tip the scales.
The fortune-teller said something about saving a life, then zapped Alethia Goodsky back to fifteenth-century Scotland — a land bristling with broadswords and intrigue. Alethia is no damsel in distress, though, even if brawny, blue-eyed Malcolm has sworn to protect her. With her wits and special abilities, she races to solve the gypsy’s mystery and protect those she’s come to love. The stakes climb higher and enemies close in, forcing Alethia to choose between finding her way home…and staying true to her Highlander.

I almost skipped this one because of the bad reviews but I'm glad I took a chance.
This is a light and humorous highlander time-travel romance set in present day and 1423. Alethia Goodsky is of Native American decent, is an accomplished violinist, and a strong independent woman. Malcolm MacKintosh is a Scottish warrior who is strong, brave, and smart....with a quick wit. Malcolm finds Alethia and immediately they both feel a strong attraction to one another. Their time and cultural differences are evident but Alethia's Native American background allows her to become more accustomed to the 15th century. They begin to realize that they have more similarities than differences.
I did not find the narration of Angela Dawe irritating at all. Each voice was unique and I thought she did a very good job with this book.
This book is charming, funny, touching, romantic, and very entertaining.
This book was wonderful. Interesting, exciting, well written and well read. I couldn't put it down. This author should write more books about highlanders and time travel, I just loved it.
At home mother of three girls. I love reading and romance is my favorite category. A little paranormal also thrown in is nice ok too.
I loved everything about this story. I enjoyed the time travel, the highlands, and the all the characters. This was about the romance. I will listen to this again and again.
I have listened to this narrator before and always enjoy her performance.
Yes, I love a good romance and this book had all the elements to keep me interested.
She read the book really well
I loved it all
No it was a great book in totoal
Apart from some blatant plagiarism in parts, the story is quite entertaining; however the narrator's monotonous nasal twang, apart from the habit of finishing every phrase with a two-note terminal (up, then down) even on single syllables, can drive the most even-tempered listener to drink. It was rather like listening to a teenage boy with a half-broken voice and a very bad sinus infection, definitely not an enjoyable experience!
The story is very good...loved it...the narration....well...you definitely have to get used to it...at first you feel almost like she is yelling the story line...but then once she settles into the voices, she really does them justice. The story line is very good....like I said...try to stick with the narration...once you get used to it...it really comes into its own.
I enjoy reading series and very rarely read stand alone series. I mostly read romance and sci-fi & fantasy.
This has to be one of my favorite highlander stories. It has love, time travel, thrills, tears, and, laughter. I really can't describe how great this story is. It also helps that the narrator is amazing. I find myself going back to this book when I'm looking for something to read.
In my opinion this is one of the best written highland books on Audible. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys; highland books, time traveling romances and, the narration of Angela Dawe. This is a great read.
I really enjoyed the listen. Good book. Thanks Audible, I was impressed by the author and the narrator. They nailed it. Yes, it is time travel with a new refreshing twist! I don't usually listen to time traveling books as they are usually a little on the same theme. This one was good. This one is recommended.
I generally do not purchase the print version and the audio version of the same book. I only purchased the audio version of this one and loved it. I was not familiar with this author and decided it was time to try someone new. I was glad I did and greatly enjoyed this book.
This was not the first audio book I have heard involving time travel but this one has a unique method involving fairies and the Fey, magical beings I have only read about in Highland books.
I was very distracted in the beginning by Ms. Dawe's narration because, I guess, I have been spoiled by the men narrators such as Phil Gigante, Anthony Ferguson and Paul Woodson. Ms. Dawes draws out the last word of each sentence and it took me some time to get over her voice and enjoy the story. By the middle of the book I was no longer distracted.
This book left me feeling as if I were almost there in the Highlands with True and anxious for the second book in the series. I could hardly bear to pause for meals (which my family demanded) nor for sleep!
If any readers are addicted to Highland romances as I am and you haven't listened to this series you need to do so ASAP! Loved it!!
Enjoyed the story in spite of the narrator who had the oddest intonation to her voice.
