Publisher's summary

Scientist Maryse Robicheaux thought that a lot of her problems had gone away with her mother-in-law's death. The woman was rude, pushy, manipulative and used her considerable wealth to run herd over the entire town of Mudbug, Louisiana.

Unfortunately, death doesn't slow down Helena one bit.

DEA Agent Luc LeJeune is wondering what his undercover assignment investigating the sexy scientist has gotten him into - especially as it seems someone wants her dead. Keeping his secrets while protecting Maryse proves to be easier than fighting his attraction for the brainy beauty.

My newest addition

This is book one in the series, setting up the ghost/cozy mystery/contempo romance. It is a really fun read with such quirky and engaging characters. Get ready for an eccentric read!

Maryse is such a great character. She is sassy yet endearing at the same time. You really feel for her situation with the disastrous mother in law ghost. I love her analytical mind and how she tries to apply logic to the chaos.

Luc is yummy, he is a bit of a player and you might find him a bit questionable. I had moments where I felt he wasn't good enough for Maryse. Fortunately, he shows true character later and ends up deserving his spot in his gal's heart.

The romance is ore subtle, not a sweet courtship. There are lots of moments to build the relationship, but it isn't all hearts and flowers. It is also not a squeaky clean romance, it has a touch of steam but not the uber hawt details.

The narrative is mixed between the leads and supporting cast. It is mostly smooth, but there are times it gets jumpy. I love the whole crazy dynamic of the town of Mudbug. Such fun!

The mystery is many layered, which keeps you guessing at times. There were some great curve balls that I never expected. I love a mystery that keeps me on my toes.

I listened to the audiobook narrated by Johanna Parker, who is fantastic. I love the gentle roll to her Southern accents, they are light but distinct. The pace is quick enough to keep the reader engaged and her energy is wonderful. Great voices that stayed distinct and consistent.

I am really enjoying this series and can not wait to see what happens next!!! Super quirky fun series!!!

If you like Charlaine Harris you'll like this!

This reminded me a lot of The Sookie Stackhouse Series. It's a light listen with the same narrator as the Sookie Stackhouse series. It's kind of fun, sort of silly, somewhat predictable, but I enjoyed it for the most part. I might listen to the second book in the series after listening to something heavy. It's worth the credit :-)

cuteness and narration saved this one

Something about this story doesn't come together. It's almost like there are too many story lines brought up and not enough time to develop the central plot - why is someone trying to kill off the heroine. The romance is also way to quick. But the characters are too cute and the narration well done and push my review from a dull 2 stars to 3. Still not enough to pick up the next in the series.

Loved it

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes! It was fun, great characters, supernatural, mystery and romance. After listening to several books that were not satisfying for one reason or another, this was refreshing.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Trouble in Mudbug?

When Luke sees the mother in law too. I am just throwing it out there because a good story that flows it is hard to have a moment. When a story is terrible there are moments. ( I hate this question, sometime I change stars to avoid this question!!)

Which scene was your favorite?

This is almost the same question as above, who thinks of these? ( I hate this question, sometime I change stars to avoid this question!!)

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, and did. I think when I listen to several bad books I will listen to this one again.

Any additional comments?

The story had a good pace, the narrator was excellent, the characters were well developed and the ones you wanted to know more about you will. At the end of the book they give you a chapter of the next, brilliant!!!! I think you will not be disapointed.

Cute.

Very cute and quite fun. Adorable characters and town. Plus Johanna Parker is the perfect narrator for this type of book.

Good start to a series!

I really liked this, but I didn't enjoy it as much as the Miss Fortune books. This one is good, though, with well drawn characters and a funny storyline. Wasn't expecting the smut though... I like more UST in my romances. The Miss Fortune series is funnier with more likeable characters and is a bit *ahem* cozier...
