Publisher's summary

Love is the last thing on Jack Harrington's mind when he sets out to meet Andi Walsh's flight. Recently back to work after spending more than a year tending to his comatose wife, Jack is focused on getting through each day and caring for his three daughters. However, the moment he sets eyes on Andrea Walsh, the interior designer who has come to decorate the hotel his company is building in Newport, Rhode Island, Jack begins to wonder if Andi might be his second chance. After a disastrous marriage, Andi, single mom to a hearing-impaired son, isn't exactly looking for love, either, but that's what she finds with Jack.

The two embark on a long-distance relationship fraught with challenges as they balance the needs of their children and dueling careers while Jack continues to care for his wife, Clare. Just when Jack thinks his life is once again settled, he is confronted with a new challenge that tests him in ways he never could've imagined, leaving him to wonder if "happily ever after" is in the cards for him.

Love this story

I read this book years ago but recently upgraded to audio. I loved the voice of the narrator! This is a story of good people dealt difficult cards. At every turn, my heart ached for the hardships the family had endured. I sympathized with each of their choices even if I didn't agree with them. I can't wait to hear the next book in the series.

Touching story

Treading Water is a heartwarming story with a poignant tragic undercurrent and an unexpected twist to the HEA. I thoroughly enjoyed Holly Fielding's narration (unlike other reviewers who thought it was too monotone). I prefer readings that are not overly dramatic like a melodrama. Holly gave a wonderful performance.

Good story

Any additional comments?

I know I have heard this exact same story before, but Audible says it was just added. Does anyone know of the same exact plot from a different writer? I would definitely recommend this book if I didn't feel robbed.

Treading Water- Recorded Underwater?

The story line was expected and somewhat unbelievable. About par with the other stories in the romance genre. MY BIGGEST COMPLAINT was the quality of the recording. Many of the chapters had the same kind of hiss common in the old cassette days. Not worth the price for the quality of the recording alone.

Great Story - but boring naration

Would you listen to Treading Water again? Why?

No, the narrator was too monotone and boring.

Would you listen to another book narrated by Holly Fielding?

No - I wanted her to show some emotion or excitement.

Enjoyable albeit a predictable.

I enjoyed this listen but found it somewhat predictable and light. While I was happy to stay with it to the end I didn't hesitate to hit the pause button from time to time. Jack's character is well developed and engaging which gives the book strength and emotion. Unfortunately development of other main characters, especially Andrea, relied so much on Jack that they weren't all that interesting on their own. Definitely worth the credit and I will listen to the next book in the series with hopes that it will provide the same emotional experience with less predictability and better overall character strength.

Good Story - Should be a Lifetime movie

Narration was horrible. Even the sound quality wasn't good. But if you like Marie Force, you'll enjoy the story of Jack, Audi and family.

I cannot get enough of Jack Harrington!

This is absolutely one of my favorite series and I am shocked to see that I have not reviewed this before. Marie Force is has written an absolutely amazing story with Treading Water. I laughed, I cried, I felt each and every emotion the characters experience as the story line progresses. Even as a re-read, I am still on edge as the story progresses.

Jack Harrington is among my favorite all time characters. He is a man who was broken and found a way to put himself back together again for the sake of his family. He is so real and believable, I can't help but have my heart strings pulled as I experience his journey over again.

Marie Force is a truly talented writer. She not only writes a complete story, but she intricately weaves multiple story lines simultaneously throughout this book. She creates a world I never want to leave and find myself wanting to revisit often. Whether it be the first or the fifth time I have experienced this book, I still find something new to love about it.

PS - Holly Fielding only enhances Marie's talents as an author with the narration of Treading Water. She is able to portray each character uniquely. I can't wait to listen to more from her.

I loved this book!

I loved this book and the entire Treading Water series. Marie Force is one of my favorite authors. Her stories depict real people, handling life issues. I especially like that she often includes characters who have disabilities, and shows them as people first. I highly recommend Marie Force's books.

Well written, compelling story

Marie Force handled beautifully the issue of how spouses deal with the loss of a partner whose body is still alive, like in the instance of a coma. The emotional path of many different family members was delicately developed.
