The ultimate protector….
Sold into slavery as a child to a cruel taskmaster, tiger-shifter Aiden Shrader trusts no one - not even his own kind. Yet as a member of the Watchmen—the organization of shape-shifters who keep watch over the ancient nonhuman races—Aiden is fiercely protective of the helpless. Never more so than when he’s asked to guard a little girl with witches’ blood—and her beautiful human aunt, a woman who arouses all of Aiden’s primal urges…urges he must resist.
To small-town schoolteacher Olivia Harcourt, the massive tiger-shifter with the glowing amber eyes is as much a dark mystery as the enemy stalking her. Yet Aiden is her only hope of surviving - until their intense passion unleashes her own inner tigress with a ferocity that will make the evil Casus rue the day they messed with her family…and will take Aiden by seductive surprise.

I spin my own wool and knit. Listening to audiobooks while I craft is one of my favorite things. I'm hooked.
I've been reading this series in order (and it helps, I'm sure). This book was the best of the lot so far. The author creates a fantastic hero for this book. Aiden is tortured and a bit clueless and entirely male. The tension between hero and heroine hit that perfect note and I really bought the attraction.
The reader, Lola Holiday, had a pleasant voice and I could find little fault with her work. Yes, I admit I've heard better, but I've also heard far worse. I barely noticed she was there, to be honest, and for me, that's the sign of a good narrator.
I read the other review for this book but decided to give the author a chance. Having read a few others by Rhyannon Byrd in paperback and listening to Edge of Hunger I thought why not? The narrator was not the best but the story was interesting...a lot of action. And of course, the classic tortured hero who spends most of the book trying to push the woman away! But isn't that what we love about romance novels? As far as the characters go... Aidan is hotter than hot! Olivia is a well...a kindegarden teacher...lol. The little girl is cute... Can't wait for Noah to get his own story, he's complicated. And the new twist on the war between the Watchmen and the Casus (the "Deathwalkers") adds a real freshness to a fairly predictable read. All in all I was not disappointed and will definitely continue reading the books in this series while waiting for the next Midnight Breed novel...lol.
I believe that this story could possibly be a decent story. However, the narrator has completely destroyed the story. I could not listen to it all the way to the end.
Note to all narrators and authors who decide to have their book published in audio format: the voice of your lead characters is vital. You must have a great voice for your lead character. Your lead characters are what sells the audience. Your lead character can not have the most annoying voice of all the characters!
Nurse, mom, loved to read....but now I love to listen. When I retire I hope to hear waves crashing in 1 ear and audible in the other!
I think the storyline with Jamie could be interesting if further developed. Least interesting.....in the beginning human gets taken by hunky shapeshifter and in the end fall in love....I've listened to many and this one is not much different.
I guess Aiden. The narration was quite good.
I found my mind wandering, I don't think I will continue on with the series.
This is a good listen, a little slow at times, and a little boring in spots. Although it is a great listen and I could not put it down.
This story has all - love, killing, crying, sex, all in one book.
