    "Romance novels"

I am a fan of this series so I enjoyed this final book. My expectations for romance novels are not high. I am not expecting great literature or historical insight. I am looking for romance and a fairly entertaining story but not a powerful novel. This book was better than many I have read in this category. Not a keeper but good enough to listen to again. No surprises here but that is usual for romance books. The lovers usually overcome all obstacles which sometimes are considerable but in the epilogues we always get the equivalence of "and they lived happily ever after" if this is the kind of book you are looking for you will not be disappointed. I buy these books when I want a stress free, brain free, love story. I don't need to concentrate too much or really be distracted from serious matters. I can put it down when I am busy and escape when I have time. So depending on what type of reading you are looking for this may or may not be a good choice for you. As distracting fiction its not bad. Due to the popularity of these books I imagine that there are many women readers that enjoy this type of fiction. I would recommend this book but then I bought this on sale so didn't have much invested either. I usually pick these books up at garage sales for a dollar or less. I buy these audio books when I can pay $10 or less. I don't like to reveal the plot as there generally isn't a lot to begin with and it exists mostly as the vehicle to get the lovers together.

"not as good as you expect"

The characters were well developed. but the story line was drawn out. the hero and heroine came to their conclusions very early on which made for a very LONG conclusion. Great writing, love the descriptions and the narration faultless, but this is not one of our writers better ones - still - consistent good prose beats other drivel, so worth the download with moderate expectations.

    "Rescue yourself from this book"

I must confess I have only managed to force myself to the end of the first half of the novel so far but as I'm not sure I'll be able to make myself go further I'll base my review on the first 5 hours.
The novel has a lovely opening scene after which nothing whatsoever happens. If the author's intent was to show her readers just how pointless and empty the lives of the aristocracy were at this time - she's done a brilliant job but I think she could have done it in fewer words. Halfway through there is no plot, no tension and I have zero interest in any of the characters. I see that as a narrative problem and if you do as well, I encourage you to consider carefully before making your purchase.

    "Sigh....Boring!"

This book didn't get really interesting until the 2nd half. That said, it was really hard to listen to the first half and I'm really suprised that I forged ahead. As this book appears to be part of a series, I would like to read the previous books, as the characters sounded more interesting.

    "Great Listen!"

I have listened to the other books in this series and enjoyed this one every bit as much as the others. It has a great story line, strong characters, and a good balance between romance and sensuality. It is also well narrated; Simon Prebble brings additional depth to the characters and enhances the overall listening experience.

I enjoyed the storyline. If you are looking for a romance to read or listen to during vacation then this is a great book for that.

    "Enough!!!"
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

    Deleting the word Waterloo.

What do you think your next listen will be?

I don't know. I like to try different books.

What about Simon Prebble’s performance did you like?

    His tone and pace.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

    Sever disappointment

    Any additional comments?

What made the story so bad? The 5,000 references to Waterloo. Did him regret going to Waterloo?
    Had Waterloo changed him?
Waterloo,Waterloo,Waterloo. I really don't like that word anymore.

    "Best in the series!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

I have read all of the books in this series and can say their all well worth listening to, but this is my favorite. The narrator is excellent. Recommend highly and suggest you don't miss any of the Rogues.
