Publisher's summary

Outcast due to their ability to manipulate time, shunned by the mortal and immortal worlds alike, a traveler's life is anything but easy. Peter Faa is a member of the Watch tracking down a murderer, and unfortunately, all clues seem to point toward his own estranged family of travelers. Any of his cousins could be guilty, but which one? They're all experts in the art of stealing time....

After surviving a lightning strike, Kiya Mortenson is determined to get just one thing in her life right. And if that means taking a job as nanny to five pugs on a campsite in the Oregon wilderness, then so be it. It doesn't hurt that the job comes with some spectacular male eye candy, including her new boss's gorgeous grandson. If only she didn't keep having this strange sense of deja vu....

When Peter discovers his own family is stealing time from Kiya, all bets are off. While she may drive him crazy at times, it's clear that it's not just lightning that's creating some serious sparks between them. And he's not going to let secrets, lies, or a devious murderer keep Kiya from where she belongs: at his side.

Quirky

Quirky. The author uses some jargon but restricts the characters to formal language. Somehow, this is entertaining.

I really tried

The story was a lot of fun, but this is not the right narrator for this book. The way it was read made the main character sound like Lucille Ball from I Love Lucy. She came off sounding like a big mouthed air head. I'm not sure if it would be better if I read instead of listened, but I just can't finish this book. I think I am on chapter 8, and I just can do it anymore.

Really?

Couldn't even make it to Chapter 4. Don't waste a credit. Enough said.

Reader made this hard to listen to.

Glad I love Katie MacAlister and this was not the first book I read of hers or I may not have read any others. I’m not sure if it was the reader that nadir it so terrible or the over the top story line. If this is your first read by MacAlister please try any other series!

Didn't Make it Far

I wanted to like this book. The summary sounded like it would be right up my alley. I got part way through chapter 2. I couldn't take the dialogue anymore. It sounded so unrealistic. When the main character was arguing with a man in the woods and it sounded so formal that they should have been on a debate stage, I was done. They were literally discussing things like one character's word choices in the argument. I never even got to the supernatural elements involving the stealing of time that were promised in the description. The narrator was pretty good. But, I just couldn't take the dialogue anymore. So, I can't really rate the story overall and chose three stars so as to not be totally unfair with a one star review overall. I'm sure others may not care so much about dialogue. But, it pulled me out of the story. I know that the first two chapters are not enough to be able to fully evaluate a book. But, I never would have guessed there was any sort of supernatural elements to this story. It wasn't set up well in the beginning. It's told from the point of view of Kiya in the first two chapters. So, I'm not sure how Peter's family of Travelers stealing time eventually works into the story. But, it wasn't very clear from the beginning that there was anything supernatural about this story.

juvenile juvenile juvenile!

I just hate when a character attempts to swear in that childish way that Robin of Batman fame does. I can take a few hells & damns but well, damn stupid book.

Slowest book ever

So I tried to give this book a chance but by chapter 5 I still was struggling to even want to listen to this book. The main female character is so ditzy my teeth were on edge. The the males all seemed to be good looking and had great chests. There are Multiple males who were just confusing as heck to keep up with and by chapter 6 I gave up still not knowing what the point was to this book. I have read and listened to some really badly written books but this one I did not even want to finish. Sorry not for me.

Excellent Narrator Makes this a Better Story

Compelling story with a fun female heroine. Writing could have benefitted from a good editor, but the narrator made up for the gaps. Terrific concept and world building told with a refreshingly relaxed pace.
