Publisher's summary

Danger waits on both sides of the grave…

Half-vampire Cat Crawfield and her vampire husband, Bones, have fought for their lives, as well as for their relationship. But just when they’ve triumphed over the latest battle, Cat’s new and unexpected abilities threaten to upset a long-standing balance.

With the mysterious disappearance of vampires, rumors abound that a species war is brewing. A zealot is inciting tensions between the vampires and ghouls, and if these two powerful groups clash, innocent mortals could become collateral damage. Now Cat and Bones are forced to seek help from a dangerous “ally”—the ghoul queen of New Orleans herself. But the price of her assistance may prove more treacherous than even the threat of a supernatural war—to say nothing of the repercussions Cat never imagined.

Bloody Hell.. I loved it!

For all the Cat and Bones fans this book will not disappoint. Cat and Bones are well into their relationship so this book really delves into family/friend relationships, acceptance, and unconditional love. ~~

I laughed out loud and shed many tears through out the book. The passion between Cat and Bones is still present and the love scene took my breath away. I still favor Chapter 32 in One Foot in The Grave, but this one probably comes in second. ~~

I have been spoiled with the intense heat, lust and passion between Cat and Bones over the last few books and I felt like it was lessened in this one. I am sure this is because they are solid in their relationship. The ups and downs in their relationship that blasted passion and lust through out the pages aren't present in this one.~~

Tavia still rocked the narration. I do think she went a bit overboard in some of the scenes..She overpowered some chapters that were written so beautifully that merely reading the words would have produced a heart stopping reaction. ~~

I have started my count down for the next C&B this fall.. But I guarantee I will listen to this audiobook over and over again until then.

~Happy Listening!~

LOVE THIS SERIES

This series is one of the best I’ve read/listen to... the characters are in depth and the narrator does such a great job at portraying them you'll actually be left thinking 'Ha, that's something Vlad would say' etc... If you have read/listen to the first 4 books of the Night Huntress Series and the 2 World Huntress Series it's a must, while each book is easily a standalone story, they definitely run on from one another. If this is one of the first series you've gotten, I also liked the Sookie Stackhouse series, Nice Girls Don't Have Fangs series and the Drake Chronicles (It's taken me a long time to find some good vampire series, I wished people would write what else they liked in their comments)... Happy reading, can't wait for the Vlad World Huntress book to come out...

Forever and Always

A delicate balance stood centuries between vampires and ghouls. Along came the Red Reaper, who tipped that balance on little Cat feet.

I can sum up the entire Night Huntress in this sentence: This is a love story. If you’re new to the series, go right for the first audiobook, Halfway to the Grave. There Bones, the guy, clubs Cat, the girl, over the head and drags her to his cave where he chains her up, beats her up, and keeps her there until she learns to like him.

Enduring romance is something Jeaniene Frost does better than almost any author I can think of. Most urban fantasy novels – heck, most any romance novels – center on the chase, the tension, the possibility, between the protagonist and the love interest actually coming together. However, in this series, marriage is the story. It’s compelling, it’s possessive, and it’s immortal. Oh, and it’s also pretty hot. Jeaniene Frost knows how to write a sex scene, and Tavia Gilbert knows how to read one. If you’re looking for a typical vampire love novel This Side of the Grave will not disappoint. If you like your sex scenes with some fangs and a little blood, check out this audiobook after you’re done watching True Blood.

I hate to say it, but there was something missing. I love this series for its suspense and action as well as for the romance. In this book, there was a lack of real danger to anyone the listener cares about. Cat & Bones must stop a war from happening, but no one the listener cares about is in danger of imminent death if they fail. I know that a lot of vampires will die, and a lot of ghouls are getting hurt, but I don’t know these vampires, I don’t know these ghouls. Overall, I enjoyed the story, but not quite as much as the earlier books in the series.

Caution this series is ADDICTING!! :-)

I highly recommend this book as well as the entire series. The characters are so well written they truly come alive... I was surprised that this could even be better than the previous books but Jeaniene Frost delivers... I really have only one complaint... once I start listening I don't want to stop...can be irritating if you get to work and have to stop listening at a really good spot !!! Arrggh hahah but it makes for wonderful commutes.. I live in LA and now I see traffic snarls as more Cat and Bones time yayyyyy

Loved it!

Just loved it. The best so far. The narrator was fabulous. I got the book in my kindle too. It almost seem to be the last book. She closed everything up and we got to see some of her characters from previous books. The only one I felt needed a book was Vlad. I hope she continues the series.

A fan forever of both Author and Narrator

I am totally addicted to Cat and Bones. I also find myself looking forward to hearing from the supporting characters like Vlad who cracks me up or Spades cool control and her P.I.T.A. mother. Jeaniene Frost draws you in within the first sentence but Tavia Gilbert presents the story to you with a punch. Jeaniene builds great drama, creates amazing characters and presents a great story. If you are new to this series it is a must to start from the beginning but you will NOT be disapointed. Many characters are brought back from previous books so you will get lost. Credits or money well spent.

Wonderful!

At this point, it is such a cliche to say that "best book in the series" but that is how I feel about this one. I have never laughed so much reading a book in this series and the storyline was so well done. I will be listening to this one over and over, for sure!

Simply the best . . . Jeniene rules

Jeaniene Frost only gets better . . .

Like a fine wine . . .

I loved this book. By now a series, once it had been around for awhile and had spin offs would start to pale and show signs of waning but in spite of the previous novel not being a 5 merely a 4 . . . One can't but wonder how she does it . . even her spin offs are excellent . . .

Please . . . Please . . . don't lower your standards and Please, Please continue this series . . . and the spin off both are excellent

This is the BEST FANTASY & VAMPIRE series around . . . if you have not read one her book yet do yourself a favor and do so now . . .

The lady has talent . . . and the narrator is excellent . . .

Live long and prosper . . .

And the punches keep on rolling...

The fifth installment of a "Cat and Bones" story that is at least as good as its predicesors, if not better in a couple of instances.
As previous reviews have noted, if you are new to the series and enjoy paranormal romance that embraces the dark with passion and the light with comedy, then this would be a series for you. Start with book 1, Halfway to the Grave, to book four and then move over to the "world" installments (First Drop of Crimson and Eternal Kiss of Darkness) before delving into this, you won't regret it.
But to this story itself, it is fabulous. The angst between Cat and Bones is gone and for this listener, I welcomed the change. They were strong in their love for eachother, all doubt and misgivings gone. The story development is strong; I laughed out loud (Vlad is by far my favourite) and felt tears dripping down my nose, it is that good.
The narrator, Tavia Gilbert, does a remarkable performance however sometimes her want to feel the emotion in the scene can sometimes obtrusive.
