Publisher's summary

An unexpected love story…

Jules Strauss is a Princeton senior with a full scholarship, acquaintances instead of friends, and a family she's ashamed to invite to Parents' Weekend. With the income she'll receive from donating her "pedigree" eggs, she believes she can save her father from addiction.

Annie Barrow married her high school sweetheart and became the mother to two boys. After years of staying at home and struggling to support four people on her husband's salary, she thinks she's found a way to recover a sense of purpose and bring in some extra cash.

India Bishop, thirty-eight (really forty-three), has changed everything about herself: her name, her face, her past. In New York City, she falls for a wealthy older man, Marcus Croft, and decides a baby will ensure a happy ending. When her attempts at pregnancy fail, she turns to technology, and Annie and Jules, to help make her dreams come true.

But each of their plans is thrown into disarray when Marcus' daughter Bettina, intent on protecting her father, becomes convinced that his new wife is not what she seems.…

With startling tenderness and laugh-out-loud humor, Jennifer Weiner once again takes readers into the heart of women's lives in an unforgettable, timely tale that interweaves themes of class and entitlement, surrogacy and donorship, the rights of a parent and the measure of motherhood.

Not Alone in Loving Jennifer Weiner

One of my all-time favorite books is Jennifer Weiner's "Good in Bed." She is almost always perfect in reaching into the zeitgeist of the contemporary woman and extracitng not only the dialogue, but the heart of a moment in time. Her characters are at once warm and flawed -- and nearly always represent women we all know -- or are ourselves. This book is her at her best and will join for me with Good in Bed, Certain Girls, and Little Earthquakes. You are compelled by each of the women in this book -- Jules, Annie and India. Each give you reason to cheer for them and recognize their humanity and the struggles all women face to find identiy, meaning and purpose in their lives -- and the way we struggle with issues of identiy that are both internal and thrust upon us by the judgements of others.

The narrators do a great job of brining the story to life. You will not regret the hours speant listening and will find things to talk about with your best girlfriends the next time you get together.

Not really all that amusing...

A little disappointed..I didn't find too much to smile at with this book. Chock full of brandname-dropping (product placement $$$ were palpable), the story was a tad silly, I thought, especially the attempt to evoke some sympathy for a multi-gazillionaire 20-something who needed a village of volunteers to raise a baby. I've liked Weiner's other books, but this one seemed to be all about the money--both the storyline and the pandering to the consumer choices of the rich and famous.

Not my favorite

I love audiobooks because I spend a lot of time in my car and they usually keep me interested. It took a lot of time for the book to get started and was confusing in the beginning because it goes back and forth to different characters.

Once I got into the book, I did enjoy it but it took a while.

Interesting story, original idea

Any additional comments?

Could have done without the sex "scenes". Didn't add anything to the story. Seemed gratuitous.

Any additional comments?

Jennifer Weiner is a solid writer. I enjoy her a lot. She takes chic-lit to the next level with dynamic characters and compelling stories. She's very good at weaving together intricate character histories and well flushed out plot points.
